i'm agreeing with you there, i've had the same thing, a sorta safety mechanism because dropping it into 1st at that speed is basically going to be putting it extremely high on rpms

I took it in for this problem a coupple months ago. The fix calls for springs to be instaled inside of the transmission to stop the gear rattle. My dealership broke thier tools trying to do the fix so they gave me a brand new tranny have had no problems since then.

I know I hear the same thing. If I put a little bit of pressure on the shifter the noise changes tone a bit or goes away. Like if in second I pull the shifter down or push up towards 1st, never taking it out of gear of anything. Just move the shifter a 1/4 inch or so. Has anyone else observed that?

yah yah i know about that. You would have to double clutch to get it to actually go. The problem is not being able to get it to go in first at 20mph, its just the winding noise that scares me. I went in today and got on the schedule, should be worked out. And no dipolley, i havn't heard that. Usually mine just pops out when i put pressure on it even without the clutch in. All in all i just don't want to start putting more torque into the transmission if something is screwy.

I don't push it hard. Just a tiny bit of pressure on the shifter knob. It barely moves and it has to be very quiet to hear the difference. I have no problems with my shifter just "popping" out of gear. It has done it once or twice. but I push it just ever so slightly, If I gave it more it would pop out of gear I imagine.

it says in the manual about putting it in first at 20 mph. I think thats the fastest you can go & put it in 1st. & why would you be putting it in 1st at 20 anyway. its not good at all in any manual!
