Brakes not up to par...

I recently bought an 05 not even a week ago and despite all of the raving reviews I've read and conversations I've had with fellow drivers, I feel my brakes are not performing properly or as well as they should. I haven't even put 500 miles on the clock yet and my friend says the car should brake like crazy. Only thing is I think my stock 02 SL2 can outbrake it...with drums in the back. This is not good. Does anyone else share this apparent abnormality? Do you think my 5 year/60,000 mile will cover this if the car hasn't even been off the lot a week yet? Thanks all.

By the way, I am a three generation stong Saturn owner and this is my fourth Saturn ever.

It sounds like something fishy is going on...

I have an '05 and my Redline brakes STRONG... As in, put your ass through the windshield if you're not holding on strong.

Excellent stopping power, rivaled by only the elite of exotic sportscars, and that's no bullshit.

I would take it to the dealer and have them take a look at it. It sounds like something is up to me... When you jam on the brakes, the Redline should stop REAL quick... The ABS works real well too as I found out the other day driving crazy in the snow...

Nope. These are squishy and the ABS barely kicks in on snow. Never did once in the rain. I think I will be making a trip to my dealer tomorrow...hope they can get me in real quick.

It's been a week and almost 500 miles worth of city driving (bought it with 19 on the clock). They should be WELL seated by now. A few days ago it wouldn't concern me, but now it is. My friend Cody drove his 04 away with 10 miles on her and he said the first time he stopped it felt like he hit something in the road as a testament to their quick responsiveness. I will just call and get them replaced. They are also grooved pretty bad. I will see if I can get a picture of them.

ditto on the brakes on mine. The brakes can throw you through the windshield if you hit them hard.

See the dullish striations towards the center of the disc that go the full circumference? That's not normal after a mere 500 miles. Do you think Saturn will warranty this with my 5yr/60Kmi?

After only 500 miles that doesn't look normal. Grooves will appear because of the performance pads we have, but that looks quite excessive, especially for so little miles on them. I would have em checked out.

I second that... I have about 19k on mine too (holla at the 19 club), and the grooves were there about 5k... I can maybe count 10 or so valleys and hills on the rotors (front only, rear don't really have much). But I don't have that discoloration/sploches. They are shiny and sexy...
