Talking I Fixed my COLD START Issue!!!!!

Ok I figured out why my car had cold start issues it may fix yours also. The other day i adjusted the bypass canister loosened the 2 10mm bolts and pushed it down cause it was set high from the factory.)Supposidly this builds up boost faster)

Well the next 3 mornings the car had would turn on and shut right off and on the 3rd start it would run.

Well yesterday after work I adjusted the canister higher where it was just touching the valve but not pushing it down. AND WOW I started my car this morning and it FIRED RIGHT UP and ran. And this was the coldest morning of them all.

Now the bypass canister is in a different position on every car so maybe you guys with the cold start issues is set to low from the factory and thats why only so many people have the issue.

The bypass canister is the black round one on the top right of the SC just a little left of the throttle body...it has 2 vacum lines going to it.

If anyone needs more info or if this helps your cold start issue let me know.

wow, that seems to be some helpful information. i will definitely keep that in mind if my car gets worse. It used to have the typical rev high, almost die, then rev high like crazy problem, now it just revs w/in a couple hundred rpms in something like a sine wave-just nice and smooth up and down, until I give it a little gas. Then it idles regularly. Anyway, good job!

That's a GREAT find man... outstanding. Making this a sticky for a few days, or weeks. Good job.

Alright, before I run outside in -30*C weather, what exactly do I do? I know the canister you speak of, but how do I adjust it?

Oh, and I have found that if my car ISN'T plugged in, it seems to start better, go figure

There are 2 10mm bolts at the bottom of the canister. Under the canister you can see it hits a small lever that moves the buttyfly inside the SC it shouldn't push down on the lever it should just barely touch it. Oh yea don't remove the bolts just loosen them to adjust the canister.

And spooner im not sure if this is the main problem for cold starts but it fixed mine....lets see if it fixes anyone elses to keep it a sticky.

There's enough people that can't figure out any other way to fix it. Hopefully, you've given a few people a solution. If it's not the case, we'll remove the sticky...

Isn't the bypass supposed to stay closed when the engine is cold??? I opened it up a little when i put the canister down to far and as soon as it went below 40 the car wouldn't start.

Thats why yesterday I was like what the heck let me move it back up and see if my car will start tommrow morning and it fired right up I was shocked and happy at the same time.

On monday I will try on this on my car and see what happens. To cold today to show bare hands and fiddle around, sat and sun I am to busy, so monday it is. Hopefully this fixes mine too. Glad someone found a solution to try to help us. Though I still don't know why my car starts better when it isn't plugged in.

Alright I see what you are talking about, its a little screw thing that has like a ribbed nut that looks like it can move it up and down and the screw hits the lever (that is fully swung over when at idle (at least when cold)). Do I adjust this nut or the two bigger ones on the canister itself?

The 2 10mm ones under the canister.....is the little nut pushing that lever down at all? If it is thats why i had cold start problems.
