You can't hear the intercooler with the engine running... and if you can... well, there's a good chance something is wrong. I couldn't hear mine and it was broken in 3 pieces....

I wouldn't be suprised if this is a direct consequence of the reversed wires...

I have a feeling that without the pump running, the impeller is getting hot as hell. Since the shaft and the impeller are different materials, I wouldn't be surpised if on expanded or contracted at a different rate than the other. Causing stress fractures to appear around it. Just an 'educated' guess though.

Once the IC pump was fixed, could you tell a difference in the cars behavior?

Im taking my 04 in for a tune up of sorts on april 7th. Have to get new brakes (pads and discs) having the loping/dieing looked at, and im gonna have them check the water pump and get the latest reflash as well.

Hopefully by may it'll be at 100%. I'll be happy when the new clutch goes in, with the new wheel/tire combo too

I sure can now. There was this 'pinging' feeling above 5500 rpms that would drive me insane, thought it was knock, running lean, etc... turned out it was the IC pump... I don't know what it was causing, but that's what made it stop.

The car seems to run smoother in general now as well. Particuarly when you're revving above normal, but not racing. The motor even sounds a bit different under load. Not anything that jumps out at you, but there's some mild distinct differences. However, my cam sensor was adjusted 2 days prior, and that caused a bit of difference in things as well. The 'ping' was the only obvious change.

The easiest way to tell, is to pull enough coolant out of the neck until it's below the imaginary line that the two hoses make at the bottom of the filler neck, start the car. If coolant doesn't start circulating, there's a problem.
