Arrow Clicking noise after I turn off the engine

I have an 06 RL and I have this clicking noise when I turn off my engine. I hear it whenever I get out of my car. It happens whether or not I drive hard or conservitively. The dealership said it was just my exhaust contracting as it cools. Is this the case? It doesn't seem to makes sense. I thought the car was only supposed to make noise when it's on? Help me please. I don't want to keep driving my baby if something is really wrong.

No, that's what it is. It's the different metals of the exhaust system, (heat shields, muffler, pipes, cat), at different temps, all starting to cool and contract and different rates.

Almost certainly what it is. There really are not many cars that do not do this to at least some degree. I have noticed it is pretty loud on the RL though

My parking lot sounds like it's full of clocks in the morning... it seems the newer cars do it much more than older cars...

One of my techs here was telling me that the resonator can be replaced and fix that noise, but I am pretty positive that it is going to continue to do that anyway since heat makes it expand. Pretty normal for metal to make some type of noise when cooling down and bascially shrinking back to size.

Dont know if that is a good description, but the best I have LOL.

Wheew!!! I was starting to get nervous. Not only that other people were noticing it and asking me if my car was okay. I was like,"Sure it's supposed to do that." I really had no freakin clue though. I hope to get better at this. I really do feel stupid asking everybody questions that probably seem so elementary to you all. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Only stupid question is the one not asked. You dont ask, you wont know. Now as long as you dont continuely repeat the same question or questions, you should be fine.
