Keeping Tabs On Your Software Levels and Revisions

I posted this a while back but the old link http://calid.gm.com/ has changed so...

If you want to keep your own "tabs" on software (PCM, BCM, IPC) that's available for your Redline - there is actually a "public" GM portal for doing so.

http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web

1. Enter your VIN
2. Click on PCM (usually or whatever module you want to check)
3. If it asks you for "BCM-Canada?" select NO (if in USA) or YES (if in Canada)
4. Wait patiently for it to display the software information

-The part numbers are the actual calibration files for YOUR module

-There is a main part number number that represents the control file for a number of additional files.

-The CVN numbers are used to identify the individual files in coded hexidecimal format

- You MUST use the FORWARD and BACK buttons shown on the screen (NOT your browser) or you WILL get errors that can't be "refreshed"

*NOTE*

In order to determine WHAT files you currently have you would need to have a dealer use the TECH2 to interrogate your PCM (or other module)

In general if you have had at least one PCM update since:
May 2005 for the 2004 models
May 2005 for the 2005 models
Sept 2005 for the 2006 models
YOU ALREADY HAVE (IN ALL PROBABILITY) THE LATEST AVAILABLE PCM SOFTWARE

*If you check with this tool at a later date and there's a NEW control file with new CVNs THEN AND ONLY THEN is there an update available at your dealer.

Keep in mind the update may possibly be for a specific condition or issue and if your car is not exhibiting those issues AT THE TIME OF DEALER VISIT- the dealer may NOT reflash the module, and are in no way obligated to do so.

Also, just because there is no updated files available - doesnt mean that the module cannot be reflashed.
Reflashing a module and installing the exact same software (some times called an overburn) will GENERALLY have little or no long term effect. However in the short term the vehicle MAY feel, run or behave differently at least until various "trimmed" items have been "learned" by the module.

So reflashing DOESNT MEAN UPDATING but UPDATING ALWAYS REQUIRES A REFLASH

If used properly this tool can prevent people from unknowingly crying "Wolf" whenever they are told (or beleive they were being told) that they have received a software update or that one was available.

HTH

LOL You didnt let me finish... needed Sp00ner to lock this up for me until I had it completed , oh well anyways...

I havnt observed the 2004 files change since Feb 2005 - AND the exact same PCM files 12597977 (04) and 12598558 (05) are BOTH listed in a TSB #05-06-04-006 that was originally released in January 2005. The 04 calibration 12597977 was also listed as required as part of the Customer Satisfaction Recall #05514 in Feb 2005
BUT
"officially" another bulletin #05-06-04-038 ORIGINALLY released in May 2005 refers to another revision for 05 models ONLY (12601903)
BUT IT was recently revised (Feb 24 2006) to include the 2004 models
HOWEVER
1257977 is STILL (and has been since Jan/Feb 2005) the ONLY available software for an 04
SO
an "update" may still be forth-coming
OR
they may have changed SOMETHING and kept the same PN# (which doesnt make any sense to me as the CVN number should have changed as well- as AFAIK the CVN is produced via a checksum or MD5 hash of the actual file)

To date there have been ZERO TSBs requesting dealers install software revisions for the 2006 models, the listed "upgrade" above therefore should have been in place from the Start Of Production but... you never know... an EARLY 2006 might just have the older files (12603031)
SO
I just listed SOP for 2006s that was when I first observed the 2006 model files and BOTH were shown

Now remember this doesnt show you what you HAVE, it shows you what you WOULD have assuming you have had your PCM reflashed sometme since the "indicated" dates. (So techncially anyone with an 04 is going to get the exact same chart as shown in Alpha's post- until there's a NEW update of course)

To find out exactly WHAT you have you would need to use a TECH2 scan tool to display the current calibrations.

( or for those of you with PC based J1850 scan tools try transporting: $6C,$10,$F1,$3C,$04 )

2004 Redline Calibration officially revised

FINALLY
The ON Again Off Again Saga of the PCM software revision for the 2004 models has been officially released!

Technically it's directly tied to the TSB below
But if your car is in to Saturn for almost any drivability concern, it's likely to get the new software

Quote:
Subject: 2.0L LSJ Engine SES Lamp Illuminated with DTC P0128 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature Set (Reprogram PCM) #05-06-04-038D - (04/13/2006)

Models: 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged

2004-2005 Saturn ION Red Line
with Supercharged 2.0L Four-Cylinder Engine (VIN P - RPO LSJ)

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2004 model year
See a complete listing of the new files in the 2nd post in this thread
