I purchase two CGLock devices off eBay as a way to hold off my need for a harness right now and save myself some money in the process, but still get the results of being kept in place in my seat while racing.
The one thing to keep in mind w/ the CGLock, is that if it doesn't work on your car for whatever reason, you can return it for a full refund - they only ask that you fill out a card that you send back w/ it so they know what make/model it doesn't go with. It works great on my 2004 Ion Quad Coupe.

Their website offers not only great information about the device, but also videos of installation of it as well as reviews by others that have used it. I worked mostly off my knowledge from watching the video and from the installation instructions that come w/ the device to install it.

Below is everything you should get w/ your CGLock.
  • cg lock
  • cover clip
  • bottom grip
  • allen wrench
  • 2 long screws
  • 2 short screws

The installation instructions were adequate, following them should get you up and running in 5 minutes

About the only advice I can add on top of their instructions is to use the shorter screws during installation vs the larger ones. Beyond that, following the instructions did the trick for me.

A couple shots of the CG lock installed w/ the cover (engage/disengage) clip off it

How it looks when installed and engaged w/ the seat belt buckled

Now i didn't take my car out for a spin after installation (it's winter here!) but I can tell you that just from sitting there and tightening it down, it's definitely secure. I liken it to the lapbelts on a commercial jet when you're traveling. Once they lock down, they don't give for anything and, if you were to really tighten them down, they keep you in place. I can already see this improving not only my daily driving, but driving around an AutoX track as well.

Here's a vid outlining how you'd use it during everyday driving and getting in/out of your car

First thoughts:
About the only thing I feel like complaining about w/ the CGLock is that the clip that goes on top has "disable" and "enable" arrows on it, but I'm not seeing them as beneficial or functional. Rather than disabling the CGLock, when the clip is slid in that direction, it tends to pop completely off instead of sliding back just enough for the belt to move freely. I don't know if this is the desired behavior, and you're expected to re-apply the clip when you want the CGLock engaged, but it seems to me that there should be two distinct positions, and then the ability to slide it completely off. I don't see this as too much of an issue, however, as the thumbspring (as i call it) allows you the ability to enagage/disengage the CGLock so you can position it as you like - you just can't disable the CGLock indefinitely.

Enjoy! I'll be posting more thoughts as I drive the car. I installed my other one on the passenger side and will get my reaction from my wife, whom always grabs for the "oh shit" bars as i call them, the next time we're out & about.

yeah, I've been using a cglock for over a year, it works great, highly recommended. especially if you autoX or generally just drive like a maniac.

I always feel like I'm gonna fly out of my seat now when I don't have it in the car.

my only recommendation is to make sure you get the one with the serrated teeth so it really grabs into the hard Ion belt buckle.

my cglock clip has 2 positions, engaged and disengaged.
works fine for me.

to release or slacken the belt the small thumb lever must be pressed.

glad to hear this from you bd, didn't know that you have been running it. It definitely seems like a product that works as advertised.

As far as the serrated teeth point, the one i got had a plate w/ || gouges in it, is that what you are referring to or did yours have ^^^ "spikes"?? At any rate, I tightened mine down and yanked on it real good and it didn't come out so I think i'm good.

The point I was trying to make about the engage/disengage clip is that mine is "engaged" and when i go to "disengage" it doesn't stop at an off position, rather pops all the way off
I have a feeling I'll be leaving it "engaged" so it's not that big of a deal to me, but still somewhat of a "pet peeve"

good deal! SpeedMafia may be selling these in the future, so if you want to wait and get them from an awesome vendor, hang around and see if Kevin picks 'em up
Otherwise they go on ebay for about $30-35 + shipping (of course) pretty regularly.

yeah I originally tried the one with the little bars like yours but it kept slipping off the belt buckle.
So I swapped it for one with sharks teeth! doesn't come off any more!

yeah that would be a pain in the butt if the clip kept popping off when you disengaged it.
mine just jumps back to the disengaged point and stays there. I have to pull the clip off if I want it to come all the way off.

I've used a CG lock since I've had the Ion and agree that it is effective in keeping you from sliding around in the seat during "spirited" driving. However, for the complete race harness feel without the race harness... the CG is not needed. Simply position the seat 1 click back on the rail from where you would normally set it. Position the seatbelt latch approx 4 inches from the buckle with the bottom half tight to your belly. Now give a sharp tug to the shoulder strap so it locks. If done correctly (it may take a few tries) you should barely be able to buckle the latch. Now reach under and use your body weight to force the seat forward a click to original position. Both the lap and shoulder straps should be extremely tight with no slack. You're not moving anywhere.
