Well just got finished installing Cynic's solid mounts. At first glance they really did not look all that special when I took them out of the box. Just regular old motor mounts filled up with urethane. But when we got the old mounts off the car the difference was gigantic. There was almost more space in the stock mounts than rubber. Clearly they were designed to dampen vibration and not engine movement.
3 of the mounts were really easy to remove. Had them on in about 5 minutes for all three. The only one that was a little difficult was the left front mount. We had to pull the UHJB, PCM, and a few other things to get to it. The stock one pulled right out easy, but putting the replacement in was a little tricky. We had to push and force and pry that little bastard back into place. The stock one could be moved with your hand very easily and just bent out of the way when pulling out. Now Cynic's would not move at all and had to be "helped" into place. All in all it took about 2 hours, about a half pack of ciggarettes, and one twelve pack. Would have taken much less time to install but it had been awhile since I had seen most of the guys that were installing the mounts and we were messing around.
First thing I noticed after cranking the car was the vibration at idle. Anyone who has ever driven a car with a busted motor mount will know what I am talking about. There was a lot of transmission of vibration into the cabin, but only at idle. When moving it goes away nicely. Now the vibration is not all that bad and I am sure it will lessen with time, but it is certainly there. Actually I kinda like it, makes you get a sense of power in the car with a bit of a shudder every now and then.
We drove around back of the dealership to give it a run with the mounts. We didn't have too much room but we ran it about 5 times getting up to about 50 mph from a dead stop. First time I ran it like I normally would, slipping the clutch out and dropping around 3k, and had no problems. The second time I decided to really check it out. I dumped the clutch, and I mean DUMPED, around 4k and left about a 5 foot long mark on the payement from the spinning tires. No wheel hop at all. None. Zero. Pure spin, both tires. We pulled back around for another pass in the parking lot. This time, I dumped the clutch at 5k and got the same results. No wheel hop at all. These were done with relatively new stock tires, I/H/E, and one or two other mods.
Anyway to make a long story short, these mounts really helped out. We tried several times to get some wheel hop and were unsuccessful. Believe me, we tried. I bet I lost about 1/32 off the front tires and really helped to speed up my quest for a new clutch by trying, but could not get even the slightest wheel hop. IMO, save the money for a torque brace and get the motor mounts. I had a torque brace but I would still get some wheel hop when launching. For the money, buy the mounts. Not to mention the fact that no one will ever be able to tell that you have them on your car. They look identical to the OEM's if you clean them up a bit. I'll let y'all know as I get some miles on these mounts how the vibration at idle fares out, but honestly I kinda like the feel of it right now. Everybody should pick up a set and give them a try. You won't be disappointed.
