Alright..I picked one up last night on sale because my car was dying for a wash. It took a little getting used to and I'm still going to have to get a little bit more used to it before the results are fantastic. The places on the car that I managed to get right looked amazing and spot free..the places where I fucked up (and it was me..not the system) had a few water spots, but that was all. It removed dirt and grime pretty well and if you combine it with a Mr. Clean pad (one of the white detailing ones) there isn't anything you can get off of the car pretty much.

Ok, I was waiting to hear from you. I'll give that and the wax a try.

Thanks Tib

My experience with an Autodry

The steps are:
1) Wash on soap mode.
2) Rinse on rinse mode
3) Spot-free rinse, leave car wet, it will dry spot-free.

1 & 2 are nothing special. A hose and a bucket will do that with no real time saved. They say their soap is special but it’s no different than any other good quality car soap. Step 3 on the other hand is very special, maybe.

When water evaporates off your car, dirt and minerals are left behind to leave spots. That’s why we try to get that water off as quickly as possible which adds time. What the Autodry tries to do is eliminate drying as a step all together. It does this by means of a throw away filter inserted into the handle of the device which takes the minerals out of the water and adds some sort of chemical (they won't say) so there are no water spots when the water drops dry.

The theory is great, and in practice it works, sort of. The problem I saw when using a buddy’s autodry is that the pressure on the final rinse (step 3) is extremely low. I can piss harder than this thing. It's literally just a fine small amount of spray, nothing like the full pressure of a garden hose. Which is ok, but because of its low pressure it's no "time saver". In my tests I ended up spending about as much time "spot free rinsing" as I typically do drying. But I have to say standing there with water dripping out of this thing is definitely easier than toweling by hand.

All in all I would say it works but for me I'd think just a simple inline water softener with cheap refills and better exit water pressure combined with a California Waterblade would be a speedy rinse cycle and make for a perfect combination.

My only beef is how quicky the filter gets 'used up' when you dont use city water. I have it, like the resuts, but its good for 2-3 washes before it's leaving streaks again. It does makes the first two steps a little more convenient than a hose and bucket, but the benefit to me over the bucket, is the fact that you're not using dirty water to wash the car with. With the bucket, you're getting dirtier and dirtier water each time you rinse and dip.

I use a two sided bucket with mesh grates at bottom of each side. I pick up clean soap-water from one side, wash the car then rinse off on the other side before picking up more soap-water. The mesh grates are about 2" tall and keep you from picking up dirt that settles at the bottom. It's a decent solution, not perfect, but decent still.

I have a Mr. Clean Auto Dry, and I have also found that the special "Spot Free Rinse" step does take just as long as drying. To me, it kind of defeats the purpose. If its gonna take just as long, you might as well just dry it. thats my logic anyways.

and i can see a visable difference when i dry it by hand than when i let the auto dry do its thing. it looks cleaner, and has a bit more sparkle when you just let it air dry.

personaly i love my mr. clean, and wouldnt wash my car with anything else.
