I'm running stock intake with a K&N drop in filter. I have not had any problems. I have never thrown any codes.

I have had a k&N cai for a while now and I have never had any problems with it and it has provided better performance. Also does everyone forget that the k&n is proven to give you more horsepower? They have a dyno chart(which i saw someone showed earlier) that shows a 17 horsepower increase at 6000 rpm.. I dont know what else to say to that. Who cares if it doesnt give you a huge increase in power! Intakes are not supposed to and btw for all of you bitching about the price versus the horse power increase let me tell you this the intake has been designed specifically for our cars. So it fits perfect and so on.. I think its well worth the money. If you cant afford than dont buy it but it is by no means a waste of money.

The dyno chart also shows the stock RL only making 195 hp. 205whp is a good rating for our cars stock but alot of people make anywhere from 210-214whp completely stock. Hell some people on here are getting dyno numbers as high as 220 stock! It's all subjective. Don't always believe what you read.

ok so 14 horsepower instead of 17 whats your point? This is a silly thread. Intakes are designed to make your car breathe better especially at higher rpms. So everyone keep in mind thats all there supposed to do. There not magic or anything just an intake. Now that I have raised my rev limiter to 7200 rpms I wonder how much of a horsepower increase im getting over what the k&N dyno chart shows at 6500 rpms? Everyone tells me the engine is still making plenty of power at 6500 rpm. So I guess the question you have to ask yourself is do I want to spend 200 on a intake that is only proven to give me a 14 horsepower increase at 6000 rpm? Im happy with my purchase. High quality materials, designed for the Ion Red Line, guaranteed horsepower increase, looks good and sounds good.. sounds good to me.

Dyno chart http://www.kandn.com/dynocharts/69-8431.jpg

the k & n chart does not show max hp of 195!!

Its showing the max hp gain which happens to be at 6000 rpm, and at 6000 rpm stock it was making 195 hp and with the CAI it was making 209 hp

Did I say max? However you want to interpret it. Here is some math for you guys: GM stage 1= 30 hp gain + base tune for hp tuner software for about $400. K&N intake= 4-6hp, if that, $280. Wasting your money on a car part that has consistently caused problems for RL's, priceless. I however, do not believe the K&N will give you 14 more horses. The intake can wait. Get a highflow filter but invest in your stage kit and manifold exhaust setups first. That is where the most poewer restrictions occur(programming and exhaust wise). If you really think you will get a huge power gain from the K&N(14hp), post your dyno numbers up and make me a believer, Cause I don't buy it.
