HPTuners for the uninitiated

The first time I read about the HPTuner software I wasn't really sure what it was. Then I did some reading and now I realize exactly what this means for the community: The ultimate customization tool. The sheer number of modifications that can be done to the vehicle's engine are immense, but unless you have access to the car computer it makes things incredibly difficult (and unsafe).

So, if you're not really sure what this means for our vehicles, check out the helpfile that I read after going to their webpage - it's a great beginner's resource into what their software will actually do for our cars.

http://www.hptuners.com/help/

On a second thought: Can someone suggest to Chris@HPTuners that they need to modify their software for human use? I could really use a couple seconds off my time in the 100m dash.

Last I read, they said if you ordered it today, the software version with the support for the Redline would be available by the time you get the hardware!

First brakes.... then... "Sp00n's Custom Tunes" with LOTS of help from experienced people.

Yep, that file helps a ton, I'm still not sure if I will go that far with tuning though, time will tell.
What's your best 100m time? You found a fellow sprinter and sprint coach here.

The biggest thing to keep in mind with the software is it requires alot in knowledge to use safely. I'm not a genious or anything, but I do know quite a bit about the car, and I'm nervous as hell about using it...

That is my hang up as well, it is beyond me very much at this point, unless someone qualified does the work for me.

The advantage to you, is a custom tune, flashed on by a shop that specializes. Intense will be doing this very service, and they're in Indiana... So while you might not be able to make a tune yourself, you can sure drive down there and have them tune it. They will most likely make a custom tune to take the place of the Stage 3 kit they offer now. I'm very interested to see what that gets them. I'm sure I'll mess around myself, that's my nature, but I'm real curious to see the power they make with computer access...

So as opposed to a MAF-T, and a pulley, you could drive down there and get the Intense kit installed, but with a custom tune as opposed to a piggyback! It wouldn't be custom to your car in specific, but it would be cutomized to the pulley size and so forth.

I never thought of that - the rev-it-up and intense people can sure benefit from this software too. On a side note: Are there shops out there that offer the kind of service where they help you install mods to your car and also help you tune it with the HPTuner software?

Sounds like a good plan. I like my stage kit but a part of me wishes I would have waited just to see the potential of the software.

Yup. Coming from the Evo community, there are now two software suites that allow you to "reflash" the stock ECU. Thats great, but you still need someone who knows what they're doing to get good results out of it. Stock ECU's are complicated animals with a bunch of different maps for different loads and different situations. The ability to alter them is a major step, but the ability to "tune" them successfully is just as important. Any goon can get in there and screw around, but I'm waiting for someone who really understands the logic and reasoning behind everything and who can produce an OEM quality tune. With the Evo, there are $299 tunes, and $599 tunes, the former done by a lawyer self proclaimed "tooner", the later done by actuall engineers, one of which worked for Dinan, both done with the same software. Guess which one produced better daily driven results?

HP tuners have made a major step in the aftermarket of our cars, now we need someone talented enough to take this tool and really do some good with it.
