HP Tuners vs. HP Pro. Which would you recommend?

I don't plan on going crazy-go-nuts w/ my RL. Prolly the equivalent of a Stage 2.

Is it worth getting the Pro package if you don't plan on adding Wideband O2 or anything along those lines? Is there another feature that I'm overlooking?

I have a spare laptop, so black box datalogging isn't a big deal for me.

I think it's just the open inputs and the black box logging. The logging part is pretty attractive to me, as I can record all my runs onto the black box for racing. Can't have the lap top in the car with me. Other than that though, I would think the standard one should be just fine.

Has anyone done tunes w/ the K&N being the only mod? I saw the post about tuning the stock, and I'm wondering if a custom tune at this stage would be worth it.

Ideally, I'd like to have a good tune for stock trim, and another tune for a 3.1". I'm assuming a good custom tune in stock trim will help smooth out the rough edges.

Spoon... ever figure out what that random "-" was in the stock config?

I was starting to sort through the tunes last night, and I was looking for that '-' in particular, but there's so damn many timing tables to look through. There's ALOT of torque management going on with the car stock, and even with the stage tune. Timing is pulled under alot of situations, there's a big drop in between the 1-2 shift, which doesn't suprise me. I think it's what some people are interpreting as a bog, or slipping clutch, since it would let the engine rev, but pull boost while it revs.

I did see the results of the K&N on one person's logs, made the MAF signal wander a bit. I think it's something I was prepared for anyway. I'm going to try and 'fix' mine if it shows up on my logs.

I'm looking for a nice custom stock tune, tq mangagement relaxed, but active. Fuel trimmed back under part throttle, and the A/F ratio smoothed out.

Then, a race tune. Fans coming on ASAP, bump the timing to work with a 1/2 & 1/2 mix of 100+ octane and 93, ALL torque management removed, etc...

You can use the Scanner feature to command the fans and the intercooler pump to run with the key on and engine off. Which is pretty cool. Just need to carry a spare battery in case you let the fans and pump run too long, and make sure the laptop has a good charge in 'er.

Any of the changes you make to the PCM for fans and the intercooler only work when the motor is running.

Is there a demo copy of the software you can download? I'd like to look at a few tunes so I can see what I'm getting into.

No, there's no. I can provide you a few screen shots of the LSJ's stock tunes, but there's no evaluation copy that I'm aware of.

That would be helpful. I'll prolly order the software in another week or so.

We should consider starting that tune database to upload BIN files as well.
