Has anyone wired like this before?

So I have neon tubes which I'm going to mount under the dash to illuminate the floor space on the driver and passenger side. But here is my concern; my initial idea was to slice the cigarette adapter wires and attach the neon wirings directly to that, but i know that you can still draw power from the cigarette adapter even after the car is shut off. Will a toggle switch be able to prevent it from still drawing power?

...and does anyone know where I can get a toggle switch that doesn't look like some stupid little metal nub sticking out next to the shifter? Like maybe an illuminated push button or an on/off switch???

i have the exact same thing i think...i have one 9 inch tube under the driver side dash, and one 9 inch tube under the pass. side dash. it looks great. the way i wired it was i spliced teh 2 pos wires together...so it pretty much makes them into one power line...and spliced that wire into my headlight wire, then grounded them of course. so now they come on when i turn my headlights on. easiest/most convienent way to do it IMO. make sense?

Try radio shack.

Hmmm i would advise you not to cut those wires it could turn into a mess .....heres a better idea for leds and neons.

1 Go to your local auto store and buy an ADD A CIRCUT MINI ....it will allow you to tap into one of the fuses in your fuse panel.
2 Crimp the power wire to the add a circut
3 run the power wire to a switch , like the one here http://www.oznium.com/rocker-switch

4 Then run the power to your neons....
5 I used these for my neon setup http://www.oznium.com/cathode-kit

They are great and very bright

^^lol yeah u could it that way too, i just was sick of running to pepboys for wire, crimper, etc. anyway...those look really good. i think itd be too distracting that bright tho. but a simple switch will work, just power and ground is all u need.

well to answer your question, yes, you can wire a switch into the neon tube circuit to turn them off, and yes, they make all kinds of switches. if you really wanted to get fancy you could wire a relay into the circuit that would only let the circuit be on if accessory power is on AND you have the switch turned on. that way, you couldn't forget to turn them off

edit: they sell splicers that let you tap into a line without cutting it. they crimp over your wires.
