Replacing shift knob

I've been looking around on the internet for an aftermarket shift knob but for some reason they're all threaded and saturn's aren't. Are there any knobs out there that are fit just like the default shift knob? I want an LED one but how do I get it to fit without cutting the rod and going through a whole long process?

buy a B&M shifter. it's got a threaded rod and you can change the knob to whatever you want, all while having a better feeling, shorter throwing shifter

I don't believe that there are any aftermarket knobs that will directly fit on the stock shift lever. The stock shift knob is pressed onto the metal lever. On some cars, there is a small screw to hold the knob on (under the gear shift patter trim piece)

I have the stock knob with the the screw. It was replaced after the original press on knob popped off. The new one is good for keeping the knob on, but the cap feels loose and comes off way too easy. Have to wonder if the Saab guys have these issues.

I would assume that the Saab owners have the same issue... unless they are less aggressive during shifting.

Aren't the short throw shifters expensive? I'm not looking to spend a couple hundred bucks for a $20 knob.

I think the aftermarket short throw shifters are around $150-$200 in price.

You could modify the stock shifter by removing the stock shift knob, and machine an insert that will fit over the stock shift lever and the aftermarket shift knob would mount to the insert.
One thing you have to becareful about is that the new shift knob does not obsruct the reverse lift ring so it cannot shift into reverse.

I just took out the reverse lock. But FYI you will have to get used to finding 5th gear it's not bad once you get used to it tho
