went out today and made about a 65% detailing job

on my IRL - did the exterior with the wax and the inside somewhat

and got around to polishing the exhaust pipe tip -

the chrome on this thing is bright and shiny again

also,

installed my new ebrake boot from redline goods

wow it was a little hard to get the top hole over the ring on the bottom -

otherwise it was pulling a little - - -it looks pretty good

to bad they don't do custom floor mats - Redline goods is the best business

I have dealt with this car - anyone thinking about ordering items with them

- you will not be disappointed - they really should receive an award for their

workmanship and customer service :)

I have the shifter boot and e-brake boot from Redline Goods and I'm happy with that as well. I also bought the leather door insert pieces but was not too pleased with them. There's a lot of work to remove the stock pieces and not a very good way to attach the new Redline Goods leather insert. The OEM pieces are held in with plastic welds so that's difficult to replicate.

I'll be washing and waxing my RL this weekend. I usually wax it once in the spring and then once in the fall.

I was looking at the pics for the door inserts - was thinking that might help to

change the rubber weather strips at the top - I need a new one there

-- in regard to the wax - last night I was coming out from the store

and the in the dark with the street light on the newly waxed surface

was unbelievable - like a blue ice skating rink - wish I could take a night photo

to have captured it.

Pic

I got to get a good pic(s)

the sun light can really ruin a good coat of wax in a pic

lol, i'll try that - I've got more in areas where I must not get to evenly

otherwise this last time worked pretty good - I may do one more

wax before the cold comes in - Its easy when there'r a few coats on there

fun when not to much work, that is -

the goal isn't to cake it, nor do it when it's hot/cold out. here's the way I do it. if you've seen my car, you know I know what I know which I'm trying to let you know.

1: wash car - 2 bucket method
2: clay bar car
3: wash car - 2 bucket method
4: thoroughly dry car
5: let sun finish drying
6: park car in shaded area (garage)
7: let paint cool
8: glaze
9: polish
10: wax

What the heck is a Clay Bar the car?

Two buckets ?? One for the clean water ?

polish then wax -what is the difference ?

Glaze ?? not even really sure I know what that means

Wow I thought I was a pro...apparently not .... :(

Clay bar is literally a bar of clay that takes fallout off of the car. You can get it anywhere.
2 buckets: one for soapy water, one from rinse off your cleaning tool before going back to the soapy water. Glaze will fill all the haze marks and such. Polish is a hard finish that will protect the paint. Wax doesn't last long, but is a finishing product to bring out a deep shine.

that's a lot of steps - i'm sure it works ....

but my only concern is that the Saturn plastic might not take to professional

clean , shine, and buff at its worth

I know that that the hood responds better to my efforts - possibly the

roof but I am usually tired by the time I get there to do it to right to

an area where no one looks.

roof and hood are metal correct?

Listen to him i have seen his car and his is black

I just watched a utube vid on the clay bar

I will try the clay bar - I have never even heard of this

I guess it is what the detailers do ??

For me its the time and energy to do the job

that gets in the way

Also one issue I have with my old IRL is if I clean too much I

see more imperfections - I'm like now I see all the scratches and holes

I might try some experimenting with some paint

bought the touch up paint - but I am throwing it out because

it has a statement:

California says its not approved and causes all kinds of health issues.

I may try acrylic paint - see what happens - :silly:

possibly a paint marker -

hood, roof, front part of the trunk are metal, which is still irrelevant....

if you follow my steps, your car will look brand new... one of my biggest pet-peeves in life is a dirty, gritty car. i just bought a new car that was "detailed" and spent roughly 3 hours on the paint, which is a quick job for me.

Well I have improved a little more on some areas where I have not

gotten too - some scratches and areas where the paint fell off - on the front

bumper - good thing this is not metal because there's no rust --

I painted over and for the time

being it looks good hopefully it absorbs into it -- -

---

hoping it will stay warm for a while - would like to try the clay bar

procedure - thanks
