Question Helmet Time

ok,its time that i had my own helmet...yesterday i was auto x ing at a local event..the loaner helmets were seriously skanky so i have finally broken down and am buying a helmet!..ant thoughts on helmet style,brand,specs would be appreciated......what are you other auto x drivers wearing??..colm.

I would shop around for an SA2005 helmet. Although SCCA Solo now allows M helmets, I think you would be better off with an SA. The SA helmet will be accepted everywhere you would want to race.

Open face and closed face is a personal preference. I run an open face because it was a cheaper helmet.

Well I have a HJC brand helmet for riding the 4 wheeler and its a great helmet and they make motor bike helmets too so just my input on a brand...

Heated Leather sure is nice.

as long as its cheap and has the correct specs for auto x i will wear anything!...might have to put an addition on my drivers side roof for this though....i dont have the sunroof option!

Best Helmet

I, too, use an open-face helmet.

About two/three years ago, SCCA published a recommendation that everyone driving an air bag equipped car use ONLY open face helmets. It seems that a deploying air bag hitting a full face helmet, can, potentially damage your neck (read break your neck). Good thinking, eh?
