Pulley removal and Install

Ok, here we go. I'll make a few corrections and fill in the blanks after the inital version.

You need:
New supercharger pulley
1 good ratchet
1 or two 6" socket extensions
Allen/Hex socket (will update on correct size, 6 mm seems right)
Quality pulley puller (SFPH sells a nice unit, a

just thought i would as my 1 and a half cents... When i did my pulley swap back in 2006 i just used a Hot Plate to heat up the new pulley to about 500 degrees and used a little anti-seize on the shaft and it slid on like butter. Never had a problem with it since. Helped to have my friend who was a 20 year mercedes mechanic there.

old thread but just wondering if there is any ways to install stock pulley.
i got a pulley puller and got the pulley hub off and now im just trying to get the stock one on. someone told me heating up the pulley will work. has anyone done this or any other way?

You should have left the hub on and bought a stock size pulley.

Even if you heat up the stock pulley it is not going to slide on nice and easy. If you don't have the proper tool to re-install the pulley you could take it to the dealership and they should be able to re-install it.

You need a high graded bolt and nut with a few high grade washers to put it back on. O ya a little lube never hurts. Dealer will most likly give you the finger and saw we only sell the supercharger. One more thing don't let a machine shop press it on they will tear your bearings all up.

ok i just got a 2.9 and wanted to remove the stage two 3.1 pulley. as i bought my car used the stage two was already on the car and i did not get the bits to remove these bolts. well i found a set of these tools and let me tell you it is not as simple as insert tool and turn. those bolts are in there good. step one best off trying to break these things loose with the belt on. next set your e brake and put the bit on the pully and as you start to try to loosen it it the pulley will just spin backwards. just keep going and eventually with turning the engine backwards the motor will have to fight the e brake and that will keep the motor from moving but now the pulley will slip in the belt to stop this put a wrench with a rag wrapped around it and put that at the 430 position on the pulley and continue turning as the wrench gets wedged it will pull the tensioner tighter and hold that pulley good while you do your best to break loose the bolts. now we run into my problem bolt one two and three broke loose and not easily but when i got two number four the tool broke right off in the head of the bolt. good thing you get two of these tools. i retighten the other three bolts so i dont f myself and i put a lil liquid wrench on the remaining one and let it sit over night. next day i come out to the car and i rehit it with the liquid wrench before i proceed and i get on it with the impact gun starting it off at only 50 psi behind the gun and i am getting nowhere and i start cranking up the psi behind the gun. well i get the psi cranked up to 200psi and i hit it with that and that was the breaking point for that bit so now i am pretty well stuck does anyone have any suggestions? i am thinking the bolt extractor route. and four dollars for aftermarket allen bolts is definitely worth it.

One option would be to completely remove the hub and pulley from the SC and replace the hub with a new one.

It sounds like you are getting close to the point where your hub is salvageable.

Hmmm so now I have a question I had the local go to performance shop install my hub and they couldn't figure out whether sits flush at te end or pushed all the way back o.o

Hi guys. Can anyone recommend to me what gun would properly remove the damn bolt off this pulley tensioner. My Husbands fed up so let's shoot the damn thing. Any ideas. The bolt is stripped. So yeah.

Hey just a little tip that usually works, try putting a rubber band (the fat kind if you have it or a normal one maybe doubled up) in there between the tool and bolt. It will kinda fill the gaps and add some grip to the tool where it is catching. Saved me more than a few times over the years.
