hey everyone! my bf has an 05 rsx type s and i just bought an 05 blue ion rl. we raced from a 20 punch in 2nd gear, he won, by about 1 1/2 cars, but he also has an aem sri and lighter wheels plus i had two people in my car and he had just him self so i think its an unfair race so were not only gonna race again but im gonna get it on tape. any suggestions on a cai for an rl? i'd really like to smoke him just b/c he's all about how foriegn cars are better, domestic cars are shit  . but i dont really want to race him unless it's really even but a bunch of people on clubrsx.com want it on tape now... what should i do?

the K&N is awesome, plenty here have it and enjoy it, i'll just send you a PM!

edit: you should be able to take him stock, practice makes perfect, a K&N intake will give you a bigger advantage

Yeah, you wouldn't even be hitting CLOSE to your powerband in 2nd gear from a 20-roll. I'd say 40 or even a 45 roll, and then you'll be hitting max boost, you'll take him, no problem. It's all about keeping yourself in your powerband, and him out of his. Bingo. Also, get rid of the extra weight, i.e. other people! Plus, Redline wheels are VERY light, they're forged, instead of cast, which results in a lighter, stronger wheel, a la Centerlines.

Best of luck.

There are plenty of American cars that would hand him his ass on a silver platter. I'm sure you'll get him next time. There's no reason you shouldn't.

U should be able to beat him stock. Don't get me wrong Honda designed a good car when they made the RSX. but the Ion RL in my opinion is a better car. even with the mods you should take him I beat an RSX by 2 car lengths when I last raced it was modded too. know it had an exhaust an intake not sure if anything else was done. My car was stock

2 people, assuming 150 lbs each, that's 300 lbs... then the wrong gear and you're out of your powerband... etc.. you can definately beat him, you just gotta get rid of the passengers and start in a better gear. Try to do a race from a roll at 4500 rpms and then run it out to 6000 (depending on how far behind your tach lags) and shift, rinse/lather/repeat.

I think it's funny though that you come behind your boyfriend's back to here so we can tell you how to beat him ;)

I will say though the 05 rsx is pretty fast (with the extra 15 hp and all over previous rsx's) but still you should be plenty fast enough to take him. We have TONS of top end, so his VEETACHH advantage kinda goes out the window.

RSX's respond verrry good to mods... with basic bolt ons and there hondata (i guess thats a ECU Reflash) they are running lowww 14s, i think even some have hit 13s.. soo you may have a problem if you run into one of those guys, especially if you are not the best driver...

True, but a stock Redline with a good driver is 14.4ish... before mods...
