My friend has a 1995 Mustang GT 5.0 and everyone wants us to race but he dosent want to because he says he will kill me for sure. He has an ebay intake and he calls his exhaust a "Cherry Bomb"(what does that mean?). So I was wondering what you guys think, is there any chance i could beat him all?

IT IS A REDLINE, and yes you could possibly beat him, should be a good race.

you should beat it, my buddy had a 97 with headers, offroad H pipe, catback, and intake, and it ran high 14's with a best of a 14.6 all around 94-95mph. stock it would get 15.3's

A Cherry bomb is a Checker Shucks Kragen cheapo glass pack muffler. About $30 for their mid sized one. A TON of backpressure oddly enough given their straight through design . . .

'94-'95 5.0 Stangs, while quicker than the '96-'98 4.6's, were still only low 15 second cars stock. The mods your buddy threw on probably gave him a whopping 5 h.p. (the intake was probably worth that, but the "cherry bomb" exhaust isn't tuned specifically for any vehicle, and is just a nasty noise maker).

I'd put all my bets on your Redline if you can get a halfway decent launch. From a roll:same thing. The 5.0's don't have the top end like the 4.6's do. They're more of a "down low" motor.

Was this an auto? j/w cuz 5 speed 96-98 can run 14.6-14.9 stock. Could be a 5 speed and its the driver or altitude. If his car is auto then u can def take it..sadly. If its a 5 speed then it should be good but based on the times i hae seen u guys post u should win..unless u have a shitty launch then his torque is gonna be hard to catch up with if he launches good. Plus if his 5.0 is ragged out then u got a better chance.

They sell cherry bomb mufflers at wal-mart (no joke). Race him, beat him, tell him to sit down and shut up.

No they can't.

The 95 sn95 stang still had the 5.0 but as already said was a mid 15 second player. It sounds like he is making excuses because he is scared you will beat him.

Exactly. It's happened to me before too, and they won't stop talking until you embarrass them. Posers

Umm yes they can. I have seen stock 94-95 run 14.9 and 96-98 run 14.8 and 14.7 stock. All 5 speeds. Most are in the low 15s but a good driver can get them slightly in the 14's. Hell my car is an auto with not many mods and runs 14.8 so far.

dude you have CAMS thats a big fricken mod. the 96-98 stangs are absolutely notorious for dynoing at like 170-180 whp. Everybody and there brother knows they were the aboslute worst years (recently) to buy a mustang.

No offense man but he's right. It was said by many that the '96-'98 Mustang V8's were the worst performance years for Mustang V8's in the past like 25 years. Nice cars, though.

If that's all he has, you have a really good chance of beating him. Just make sure you get a good launch and run through the gears well.

Bet him $20 that you can beat him. If he thinks he's so fast, then that should be easy money for him, right? If he turns down that offer (especially in front of other people) then you know he's just scared to be beat by a Saturn. :p

dude i have PI cams. Ford factory spec cams for 99-04 2 valve GTs. They are not aftermarket 500$ Compcams or sumthen altho they do add like 15-20 horses in the 96-98 stangs. They were out of an low mileage 02 GT and i won them on ebay for 50 bucks! Best mod for money i spent so far. I ran a 15.0 flat before that with an auto.

Should have just swapped the heads as well... :D Reminds me though...AFM has a new tool out that allows swapping 2V cams without dropping the front engine cover....time for some AFM or VT Engineering billet blower cams...

Oh...and as someone that has a 1995 GT in his garage, if those are the only mods that car has then it will be close but I'll give the Redline the nod. If he's got 3.55 or better gears in the pumpkin and is a really good driver....probably not gonna win by any margin.

Dude, you can't take the best times you've seen and say thats what they run. Thats like me saying the SRT-4 is a 13 sec car. Just because a few have run that doesn't make it the norm. 14s is the average for the SRT4 just like 15s is the average for 94-98 stangs.
Bokathug, your RL will own the stang, race him then send him on his way.

Did u even read my post? I said most are in the low 15's, some with good drivers can run high 14's. I said i have personally seen them run 14's but also mostly 15's. Damn. Blown330 what do u driver? Yes i should swapped the heads but most of the power is found in the PI intake and cams. I am planning on doing the Intake one day..that with a tune and 4.10's should put me close to 13.9

I used the AFM tool. But pretty much sweated it and held the cam gear up and tight. Good thing me dad is seasoned at doing this. If i ever did it again id go with the ford tool
