is there any easy way to get to 300 hp? i wanted to get better internals but its difficult finding parts... this is my first redline so i'm not too familiar with anything about it. it's basically stock besides k&n intake, full 2.5in zzp exhaust (cut off resonator and just put a straight pipe there because it was leaking sounds like a riced honda, but i get crackles when i downshift), and zzp long tube headers

i'm trying not to break the bank but still get a fun fast(ish) car

ALSO if anyone is selling their side skirts please let me know because my passenger one has a big hole in it and i'm pretty sure it's messing with the ground effects because right when i hit 70-80 my car starts shaking (and before you say it, no it's not my hubs or my axles or any of that)

Why do you want 300 HP ?

How long have you had the IRL?

It is fast with the stock and stage kits - nice car !

i've had it for about 4 months now and i've been fiddling with it here and there, i've had a civic, an e46, and an s line, and now i'm onto a redline. but from reading through these forums, this engine is a little unique and definitely not something that i can just throw parts at and call it good , some people say you gotta go the extra mile to get to 300hp. i don't even know where to start or who to listen to because everyone says different things "don't bother with pistons, stock > forged" "better fuel pump is useless" yadayadayada
then the next dude will go and say the exact opposite of what the first dude says, it's crazy

oh and 300 is just a goal, why set the bar low right?
and i'm already in the process of buying stage kits and going from there, but i want this engine to be somewhat protected from whatever power it's gonna put down in the future
and every time i look up parts it says they don't exist. i've contemplated getting rid of the car but it's got a lot of character and i'd love to keep it around 😁

300whp is a very low bar for these cars.

I'm trailering my 125k mile stock shortblock, stock transmission car to the dyno this Friday and shooting for 500whp. I expect high 400's minimum.

The people who blow stuff up on these cars either have crap tunes or don't know how to drive.

the forum members have many paths to increasing the HP

I have read many HP techniques here as well

I would guess one would have to drive the higher HP cars to compare

They say that GM performance or GM or saab or who ever actually did all the engineering to make it a great engine:

The LSJ is a supercharged version of the LK9 Ecotec 2.0 L— 1,998 cc (121.9 cu in)— with an Eaton M62 Roots-type supercharger and air-to-liquid intercooler. The LSJ shares many of its components with the LK9 such as: piston cooling jets, oil cooler, pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, oil pan, sodium-filled exhaust valves and cylinder head.[3] It is rated at 205 hp (153 kW) at 5600 rpm and 200 ft⋅lb (271 N⋅m) at 4400 rpm with a compression ratio of 9.5:1 and a 6500 rpm redline. With the end of the Chevy Cobalt S/C SS and Saturn Ion Red Line, the LSJ was discontinued after 2007. In late 2005 Brammo Motorsports struck a deal with GM for the Supercharged 2.0 L Ecotec for their Ariel Atom. The engine came in various ratings from 205 hp (153 kW) to 300 hp (220 kW).

The LSJ was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2006.

LK9 is a turbocharged 2.0 L— 1,998 cc (121.9 cu in)—version of the L850 (86 mm bore) series Ecotec utilizing an all-new reinforced sand cast aluminum cylinder head and upgraded internal components. The exhaust valves are liquid sodium-cooled. All vehicles using this engine feature Saab's Trionic 8 (T8) engine management system as well as a revised valve train. The timing chain and timing gears are also new, along with Saab's Direct Ignition system. The reinforcements, turbocharging, intercooling, internals, dual overhead camshaft, and such were developed by GM Powertrain Sweden (Saab Automobile Powertrain). It features an 86 millimetres (3.4 in) bore and stroke and a 9.5:1 compression ratio. Maximum power is 210 horsepower (160 kW) at 5300 rpm and 221 ft⋅lb (300 N⋅m) of torque at 2500 rpm. Maximum boost is 12.3 psi

When I saw the video of you hitting 421, I lost all interest in doing anything to the M62 or a possible TVS. Setting the car up for a turbo is the only way now.
I just got all the stuff for FE5 swap, minus the spacers for YYZ's(which came today 😁) gonna be a fun weekend. Next is clutch and mounts, then ported head and turbo.
Can't wait to see the video of you hitting 500!

Cheapest way is get stage3 2.7 with all cooling and E85. Should get you 280ish. Cheapest way is a shot of nos. Tvs and E can get ya near 400 and turbo higher.
