Alright guys/gals,

As some of you know I just traded in my 2.2 ion for a 2.0. I grabbed my xm tuner out of 2.2 that I had hooked up to my aftermarket head unit. I'm wanting to add XM to my stock head unit in the redline but I'm not exactly sure where to start.. Or if I"m going to have to tap into the wiring harness or something.

This is the xm tuner that I had hooked up to my other radio:

Another thing, when I pulled the radio trim off there were no bolts/screws holding it in place, so it seems that maybe there was a aftermarket radio in here before. Also when I googled the part number it said this radio was from a Saturn Vue. So suffice to say.. I'm feeling a little confused/lost lol

Here are pics of my radio:

For that kit you need to have an XM ready head unit. Generally those are aftermarket head units. So you're going to have to find out what year vue that radio is from and find out if it was satellite ready. I have a feeling you MAY be disappointed on that front but hey...worth a shot

As for the radio itself ours is normally mounted in with two 7mm bolts. I can't tell for sure but that looks like a double din unit and if I remember correctly people had to do some sort of modification to make it fit which is maybe why it wasn't bolted down.

Hope that gives you a LITTLE help anyway.

Yeah, I just gave up on this. I went to car toys and talked to one of their techs. He basically told me that it wasn't going to be cost effective.

So I started looking at different head units and found one that I really like. Just have to get the money for it now.

I had Sirius for a while until they merged. Their offerings are pretty weak these days. Honestly, I bought a slacker g2 (portable slacker unit) it holds 25 channels and you can choose what type of music you want and how much unknown artist play you want etc...I find that for my 50 dollars that was much more worthwhile. I do miss Stern but :: shrugs:: not worth that much a month.

It's refurbed but they don't sell them new anymore (they've gone to applications for phones because it's more profitable. You don't have to pay them for this one though)

I had the Sirius unit that just broadcast out to 88.1FM, and you just tuned the car radio to it. I didnt use it for music though, so the quality didnt matter much to me. Been a long time since I was a subscriber though.

No subscription fee, am I reading this correctly?

Yeah you read it correctly. It can hold 25 channels (either pre-made or ones you create just like normal slacker) and you just have to update like once a month or so (ie hookup via wifi or hard wire and let it refresh stations and add new music.) With the basic service there are "commercials" which consist of a 5 second "you're listening to slacker radio" like every 5-6 songs and that's it. You still get 6 song skips per station per hour. You CAN upgrade so you have unlimited skips but meh...never saw it as worth it. I like it a lot better than the app for phones that you have to pay to cache each month.

I've had XM for about 3 years, and going back to regular radio has sucked royally. I don't want any extra pieces of equipment that can be viewed. But something that is all built in together.

Well if that's what you want and you want to continue paying for mediocre programming your option appears to be to buy an aftermarket head unit and use the XM kit with that.

Why Thank you, I think I will :) I had no issues with the programming with my XM radio. It had all the stations I wanted. I'd say I was extremely satisfied, which is why I wanted to incorporate it into my new car.

While the slacker radio is a great option, my reasoning for not using it is because I don't want an extra piece of equipment, and I want to be able to use my radio to control the stations.

And if I'm going to have an external device I might as well download the slacker app. Which is free. I have unlimited data on my phone so data isn't an issue. I'm using the slacker app as I type and it is pretty similar to pandora.
