This is from the SCCA rulebook:

Saturn Ion Redline (2004), p. 29, add to the specs as follows: Wheel size(in): 17x8
(F&R), Notes: The GM Saturn Ion Redline T2 suspension package PN XCC578 is
allowed. Kit consists of: PN XCC579 front spring (450 lbs/in), PN XCC580 rear spring
(750 lbs/in), PN XCC581 front anti-roll bar, PN XCC582 front jounce bumper, PN
XCC583 front lower control arm bushings, PN XCC584 steering gear mounting
bushings, PN XCC585 rear axle mounting bushings, PN XCC586 rear jounce bumper,
T2 Brake ducts (GM PN XCC587), T2 Aftercooler (GM PN XPI588) T2 Supercharger
pulley (GM part number XPI589). The kit must be removed in its entirety for T3
competition.
What are these kits that they are describing???

I don't know, but I like it...

These are club racing specs, as in "showroom stock". Those are packages for "spec" cars, like IROC, where the drivers drive identical cars, all built to the same specs.

I'm thinking so, esepecially since there's PART NUMBERS!

Any Saturn service or parts guys could run those numbers and check availability - I want those springs and the s/c pulley!

that's probobly a list of upgraded parts over the stock QC, hence the "Saturn Ion Redline T2 suspension package PN XCC578"

so if you had everything in that kit to put onto a regular QC, i assume it would have the road manners of the RL

might be of some use to the regular ION guys/girls looking to upgrade...

Then why does it state that these parts can be used on a Redline to race in the class? Why specify that parts that are already on the car?

because they come on the car in the first place, but some may take them as being aftermarket, as this is a stock class, isn't it?

it's likely there to verify part no's and such. i bet if you look up the SRT-4, you'll find something to the same effect

It was in the area describing the different modifications that are allowed on stock cars to compete in certain classes. Someone call Saturn, ask about the availibility of these parts, then as for the stock Redline part number. Easy as that... I'm at work right now, can someone give it a shot?

Also, we don't have brake ducts.

you might be right, maybe this is stage 1!!! since it mentions the pulley and aftercooler, but not the blower!!!!

and i missed the part where it states that the kit must be removed in it's entirity for T3 comp. seems like good news to me, bet it gets unveiled at release of the cobaltSSs/c, or sometime thereafter...

maybe someone working for saturn can check if they even have the part no's at the dealer yet

good find!

I just re-read the whole section that was in and it pretty clearly states that these are modifications allowed to run in the category specified. I'm calling Saturn when I get home and asking about the aftercooler part number and the supercharger pulley.

Well, that sucks - maybe just aren't released.

I don't think it's a base Ion upgrade, since a base Ion doesn't have a blower, and it mentions a blower pulley.

I just called Saturn, and as soon as I told the guy the first 3 digits he stopped me and told me that they aren't valid Saturn part numbers. Hmmm...

I've been all over the web searching for those parts. I've left the question of where are those parts or are they even available on every website I found. Is Saturn the bastard child of GM cause on the GMGoodwrench.com and GMpartsdirect.com, to just name a few, have Cheverolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Oldsmobile, and Hummer but no Saturn.

saturn is slowly moving more into the gm lineup, for the first 10 yrs saturn was seperate from gm management, they are just now starting to merge more.

I talked to a guy at GM yesterday, and he told me that those are not valid GM part numbers in any way. So I explained to him where I got them, what I thought they were, and what type of car it was for. He told me that unless Saturn has an OEM-aftermarket catalog type of thingy, he has no idea what they would be.

Edited: I just emailed the SCCA techs to ask them what these parts are and how I can 'tell if they're on my car' so I can be sure to be within regulations this season. ;)

OK here is the skinny that I could get,

This guy is Mike(?) Kramer, and is a saturn insider, that races ALOT in SCCA, and has in the past made his own parts and given them factory PM#'s and only 2-3 of them ever existed.

My guy is gunna call a friend that may have more info and let me know if hears anything
