Are my Techs doing something wrong?

Took in the car for a oil change today and of course took my own Wal-Mart Mobil One oil with me. At the end of the day, when I picked up my car, to my surprise, they only used 5 bottles. I thought people on this board said it would take 7 for an oil change, and sure enough, after I check several threads, that was the number. Did they miss something, if you change your own oil, I really would like to hear about it and maybe call them back tomorrow.

I had to use a little over 6qts on mine, I let it drain out for about 30 min or so too. 5 seems a little too low...
Most likely they didn't drain it completely. The capacity is 6.5 quarts. I use 6 quarts on any redline that comes into the dealer and it fills them. Theres always gonna be a little bit of oil that doesn't drain but a quart and a half is a little excessive.
I thought it was 6.75? A lot of the techs at the dealer that I go just put in 7 quarts...

That's a little risky Tom, no?
So they may not have let it drain out long enough, I better go check the dip stick too and make sure it's at a proper level.
This dealership hasn't sold too many Red Lines to my knowledge, I don't know how much experience they have with working on them. I guess that's the bad thing about owning a somewhat rare car.
We put in 6qts at our dealership.
Crap, I am feeling more and more uneasy about this.

I'd say so, but I'm not the one doing it. I put in 6, just telling you what a number of the techs at that dealer do...

I understood that part. You seem like you would know better than to just guess how much to put in! Yikes... nothing like too much oil... is that worse, or better than not enough? I've always been told it's about the same. Assuming you're not 5 qts low or something crazy.
Go check your dipstick. If it is normal, then either they didn't let it drain long enough, or they got sick of pouring them out of your bottles and used their own supply. If it is low, drive it back there, and begin battle my friend. I HATE it when places can't do even simple oil changes right. My past car, I took it to Belle Tire once in the winter to do an oil change, and it came back with OVER A QUART too much oil. Soon after that...the engine started misfiring, and I had to spend $300 to replace a fuel injector....I could only assume that these were related, even though my mechanic said they most likely weren't....This is why I do the oil changes myself from now on.

Yeah, I like to let mine drain a long time, too. Then I put in 6.5 quarts, or maybe a bit more. Perfect!
I took 7 bottles to my saturn dealer for an oil change. He said it was plenty. He also said it was 6.75 and whatever they didn't put in my I guess they threw out I don't know nor do I care really.
