JUST KIDDING!!!

Hi. New here. Like to see people on their toes! LOL!

So anyway, question for you guys. How do you like your Redlines?

I'm going to buy a 2nd vehicle very soon and am seriously considering a Saturn ION Redline, Chevy Cobalt SS, Pontiac G6 GT, or C6 Corvette. (Just kidding about the C6 - can't afford one.)

I've driven the G6 and really liked it. Nice ride, decent fit and finish, decent power. Seemed to be an all around good daily driver vehicle. I'm very familiar with Pontiacs (owned 6 of them in the past 4 years) but I'm not really up on Saturns to be quite honest.

Figured you guys could fill me in on what ya'll think are the good and bad qualities/points of your cars. I haven't test driven and ION Redline yet. I plan on going to check them out this weekend up close. So far I've really liked what I've seen online though.

I know you guys probably love your cars and don't wanna say anything bad about them but go ahead and shoot it straight with me.

So what do you love about your car? What kinds of problems/quirks do they have, etc? And almost equally important, how is the performance aftermarket for these cars?

Thanks for the help guys!

Glad to hear your ride's been trouble free. Definitely something I'm looking for in a car. How many miles do you have on it?

Anything you don't like though? Not enough headroom, floor mats look funny, console knobs smell like jell-o, anything little quirks like that?

well GTOman since I am the first to answer your thread I will be frank. I've owned my RL for about 8 months and love it. I test drove the Acura RSX type S, Dodge Neon SRT-4, Honda Civic Si 04 model, and the Pontiac G6(after I bought my RL). I loved the G6 and Neon but there was something about the RL that made me "want it". I have had problems in the past with my RL, but Saturn has kept up with it and fixed all my problems. The performance market is quite shabby though since this is such a new car. It took Acura about 2 years before performance mods were ready for the RSX. We have an awsome group of RL enthuisis on this forum that are pushing to have major performance companies to make mods for the Redline. If you do plan on buying one get the comp package and trust me...............hold on to you balls!!!!!
oh by the way there is nothing better than to see the face on someone you just beat in you Saturn. As far as safety just go to Blue Arcade's pics of his RL, rest its soul, he is living testimony.

I was wondering about the center mounted gauge cluster. Glad to hear that's not too hard to get used to. What was with that idea in the first place? Does it make it easier to view your gauges while driving?

Glad to hear that Saturn is standing behind their product and addressing the issues that you've had with your RL. Was it anything major or just piddly things? I know that ANY car is going to have problems. Right after I bought my GTO they sent out a service bulleting for a rear end "thunk" do to bad bushings from the factory that needed to be replaced but that doesn't make me love my car any less. It's just important to me (like anyone else) that there aren't any major problems like tranny or engine, brake, suspension, or anything else that would have the car down for long periods of time for repair or safety issues.

well I've had my RL in the shop four times for it running to rich and not starting after long drives(800+ miles) and cold mornings. There is a thread talking about this I cant remember which one even though I started it, but none the less Saturn has fixed it and it runs better than ever. The center mounted gauges are supposed to be better because instead of looking down you look over but still have peripheral vision of the road ahead.

Hey GTO, welcome I've had my car for about a month or so now and just broke 2000 miles on her today. I have never been so happy with the overall package of any car. Aftermarket is actually starting to pick up there is one company working on a bunch of stuff right now called Psi-Fi and another company Revitup Motorsports are also looking into getting parts made. I actually am going to meet up with them on saturday. Well Hope you choose a redline and DEF get the comp package as you WANT the LSD. I've had only a minor issue with my car have cold start troubles but that was fixed with an ECU upgrade and now the car runs EXTREMELY smooth, also I just found out I had a bad MAF sensor but its getting replaced tomorrow. You just can't beat saturn service

Great info guys! Thanks!

Now which color is the fastest? I would think red would be since that's a race color. :D

And I've noticed while looking at some of ya'lls ride pics that some cars have the low spoiler and some have the high. I thought the RL's all got the taller spoiler. I guess that's an option? I think it looks pretty mean.

The Aero Wing (high spoiler) is an option. I don't know for sure if it comes with a spoiler factory, but if it does, it's the low one. I'm rather fond of the Aero wing, and when I get my Red Line (in red, of course), it will have the aero wing.

The redline i tested had no wing, and the guy told me I could add the Aero (which I might, I like the look) but I also like the sleeper look more..still trying to decide...

I hear ya on the sleeper look. That's one of the things I love about my GTO - people don't realize what it is or think it's a regular coupe until I hit the accelerator! LOL!

Since I already have a factory sleeper I'm really wanting to go with something that has a little more flash to the appearance, thus I like the tall spoiler. I hate ricers and such and normally would shy away from something that seems "ricey" like a larger wing on the back of a front wheel drive car, but I think the tall spoiler for the RL looks nice and isn't obnoxious like some of the park benches that ricers seem to enjoy putting on their Hondas and such. I guess they know something about physics that I don't. I assumed you would want your downforce on your drive wheels! LMAO!!

So far so good!

I have over 17,000 miles on my GTO with no problems at all yet (other than the GM Service Bulletin - no big deal).

Hopefully that's indicative of the rest of the GM line. Seems that GM is finally getting their stuff together after a long period of bland looking, low performance cars (with the exception of the fbodies and Vettes) and questionable quality issues.

You guys are really impressing me with the RL so far.

Anyone have any significant gripes about their RL yet?

I am sure everyone loves his or her car here. There are a few things, the interior is made of cheap plastic in many places, so there are all these squeeky noises here and there. I know I might catch crap for saying this, but if you throw out the Recaro seats and the shifter, they would be almost nothing I like in the cabin. Also, the quad door style maybe good for put in large cargo, but they are murder when it comes to wind noises. All that being said, if you just look at the car from and outside and just drive it, baby, it's the best car you can get for the price.

Hey, as a Renault supporter, I resent that comment ;)

But then again, I only support Renault because it's a moot point to support Ferrari.

Vroom, vroom, F1 season starts this weekend...

No, you're right on. I like the look of the inside though, I know it's made of cheap plastic, but I really like the look to it. Lets face it, any $20,000 has a cheap something, and I'd prefer it was the interior and not the engine and transmission.

The largest problem that people have been experiencing is in issue with the Camshaft Position Sensor, that causes timing issues and starting problems. I had this problem with my '05 2 days after I drove it off the lot, it took them 3 days and it's ran like a champ since.

If you like sleepers, this thing is the king of sleepers. I ran into a guy in an Impreza yesterday evening in traffic (just some spirited driving, not a line up and race situation) and he stopped me as I was turning and asked me 'Is that stock? I've never had to chase a Saturn before.' He talked to me about the car for about 3 min sitting at the light, and then when I told him I paid just over $18,000 for the car he almost lost it. He asks, 'What's under the hood?', you should have seen the look on his face when I said it was a blown 2.0 in a Saturn.

Yes, you will get the squeaks and creaks in the interior.

Just make sure you get the upgraded audio so you can turn the radio up to drown them out. :D

Great car though. I'd have to say it's THE best bang for buck deal on the market. I did have a leaky tranny problem but it seems to be an isolated incident and once they replaced it (SEVERAL service visits later) I have had 0 problems.

Hold on just one minute bucko, not so this season. I support Ferrari, but I don't think they will have it so easy this season, what with the rule changes and all, and BMW is gunning for them. It's going to be an interesting season. BTW, did'nt mean to jack the thread. (We now return you to your regularly scheduled program) :D
