Boost Gauge?

4811 Views 29 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Batman
I just read somewhere that the chevy cobalt will come with a boost gauge. Is there any that you could buy that would work with the RL? I looked around and they all say they'd work for turbochargers... so can you just put any boost gauge on a supercharged car? I have more experience with imports/ turbos.. this is my first supercharged car... does anyone know? I'd be curious to see if it really does hit 12psi... also just a good thing to have to keep an eye on it in case any problems come up.

I put in a fully digital one in my Grand Prix. Taps into the MAP sensor and didn't require any vacuum line splicing. It was made by unidyne but I belive they no longer make that model.

Anyway...almost any vacuum line type boost gauge should work.
I am installing an Autometer boost gauge in my Redline along with a 5" Autometer (Phantom series) tach with shift light. I will post pictures as soon as I get them installed. It will be a few weeks cause I am pretty busy at work.
Where are you guys thinking about puting the boost gauge at?? I want to get a boost gauge and an intercooler temp gauge, but have no idea on where to put it. And does puting a gauge in void the warranties at all??
i doubt it would void warranties.

it would be real cool to put them in the vent's, but the steering wheel blocks both vents that would be best to put em in.......so thats out.

id just try to modify some a-pillar pod. even tho the gauges are on the other side, you'll be lookin both ways at them, haha.

u could also put them right in front of u, but im not a fan of that style.
I talked to a co-worker who's pretty experienced at modding cars, said I could put any boost gauge on.
Now I just have to decide which one, and figure out where to put it. I'm thinking somewhere towards the left.. i duno i'll see.

kenwood: post pics when you install
I am going to place the boost gauge and tach on the top panel behind the steering wheel. It appears to be the best location for my use. I purchased a new top panel so when I get rid of the car (if I ever do) I can remove the gauge and tach and install the new top panel. That way, there will be no holes exposed. I just got back from the dealership with the new top panel. I will post pictures when the stuff is mounted. Will be several more days though. I forgot to order a mounting cup for the boost gauge so an order to Summit was just placed before I wrote this. I also need to figure out where is the best location for me to mount the tach adapter under the hood.
wow, you bought the panel already?!?

how soon do you plan on getting rid of this car?? haha
The new top panel is sitting on the bench in the box in my garage. The price for the panel at my dealership was $115 plus state sales tax. BTW, who knows when I will get rid of the car and buy something else. I bought a 1968 Plymouth HEMI RoadRunner (2D HT) new and kept it till 1977 when I sold it. There was 9,200 miles on it. Big mistake to have sold it since I see what they are worth now. It was in mint condition. It never saw the rain or snow, just a lot of 1/4 miles at a time.

you win the big mistake award.
a lot of cars went south during the seventies i sold my 68 Nova in 79. i wish i had it today. the posts are full of stories. how were we supposed to know?

yes i saw the picture of the interior of the Cobalt
the boost gauge is on the window piller just left of the steering wheel
very nice touch.
gda
Has anyone seen a pilar that will work with our cars?? If I could find a pillar gauge that will mount thats where i would put the the boost gauge, and a couple others too, but i havent seen any
i guess you gotta just find a place that sells a ton of different ones and just do some trial and error till u find one that works, lol.

there are no specific ones, but you could get a universal one and mold it, but that may take some artistic ability

Welcome to the world of Saturn, where nothing is ever built for us and custom work rules the land...

I doubt they'll make one for us, and the pillars for the Cobalt are probably different. Just make your own.

I'll just wait to see what the 05' competition package boost gauge looks like. I like everything to match as well as possible. If not oh well, I'll look elsewhere.

Yeah, I'd like to see where they Comp RL is gonna have it as well. Who knows, they may use a pillar mounted gauge too, which means that one will be available for those of us who couldn't wait until '05 to buy a Redline. :D
Hey guys,

I myself wanted to install a boost gauge and did a little investigating, I bought a Univeral Boost gauge pod and it did not fit at all.. Well I returned that one and went to Super Autobachs the meg car performance store in Stanton, CA and bought one to a 94-98 dual pod and it almost fit, now Im thinking that if I have the single pod it will work perfectly.. Cause its flush with the molding for the top pod but the lower one is not flush.. Anyways just my thoughts on the subject.. OH yea the brand I bought was Autometer...

Are you talking about pillar pods?

At first I liked the one behind the steering wheel, but the more I look at it, the more out of place it looks. I'd love to have an A-Pillar pod.
Yea, Im talking about a pillar pod.. Its the closest Ive found, tomorrow Im gonna be getting together with some friends and either putting in the pillar pod, or the center mounted behind the steering wheel....I'll try to take some pics and post em so you guys can see how it goes..
