Damn intake filter came loose today....

I was on my way to the bank this morning and all of a sudden my car started running like shit. It would have hesitation and then surges in power and I could watch it happen on the tach.

I was like WTF?!?!?!?!? Then when I came to a stop the tach would go from 900 and jump up to 2K and then back down without me even touching the gas.

My first thought was, Oh great, the ECU upgrade I got a month ago is causing this.

So I got to the bank and popped the hood and my K&N filter was just sitting there on the frame of my car. I couldn't get it back on at the bank cuz I didn't have any tools with me. I wedged the filter up in there so it would not fall out and kinda half assedly on the intake. I then put my hazards on and drove home going about 10-15 mph for about 2.5 miles.

The worst par was, it is raining here and i was really worried about sucking water up in there.

I got home and went to buy a K&N Re-charge cleaner and oil kit in the wife's car because the damn thing was filthy anyhow.

I'm also gonna do an oil change after I get the filter back on so if I did suck a bit of water up in there I can get it out ASAP.

This sucks. I have NO idea how that damn thing came off. I clamed it pretty good when I installed it. I guess about once a week I need to check the clamp and give it a turn if need be. You guys should do the same.

Thanks for the tip. We should check on that, as I will once I take my airbox off. I wouldn't clean the filter yet though--they go for like 50k miles even out here in the desert. If it got dirty, it will only filter more. . .Sure you can, but just mo money.
been there done that. Freaked me out as well. The oil from the pcv system is how the filter comes loose incase you were wondering.

....and that's why I'm bone stock.

Amen to that! I'll wait until we have some real aftermarket support ... and proof that it works.
a small self tapping screw will fix that forever.
