2.5" will be fine as long as down the road you are not going to a full turbo setup or going to twincharge the car at that time you will probably want a 3" or so and i dont think it will fit anyway i could be wrong and correct me if i am
Stock ION Piping is 2.0" and the HKS for the ION is 2.25"AlphaJaguar5 said:Anyone know what putting the HKS exhaust for the regular ion onto a redline will do? Would it hurt the performance at all? The piping is 2.5" which is the same as the stock redline piping but I was wondering about the how the flow of the exhaust designed for a N/A'ed engine would affect the S/C'ed engine. Thanks
3" will fit but you will not benifit from it unless your making at least 650HP+zfactor said:2.5" will be fine as long as down the road you are not going to a full turbo setup or going to twincharge the car at that time you will probably want a 3" or so and i dont think it will fit anyway i could be wrong and correct me if i am
I had the piping measured before I did my exhaust and no it is not 2.5" stock. I am the first person do custom exhaust on the Redline back in Aug. of 2004....Vita said:stock redline exhaust is 2.5, or so i'm under the impression it is. and you're better off removing the section that drops to 2.25 and the muffler replaced by one of your choice, than to spend the money on that exhaust system, which, if it's 2.25, will make your exhaust smaller...
Yes I know alot of cars have 3" exhaust but to really make gains and get the full benifit usally you should be making over 500HP+ I have been in this game way longer then most people and would not do something to my car that is not going to make power....Guess you don't know me that well, some poeple on here know me and know my old car 2001 SC2 built & nitrous fed.zfactor said:i dont know about that 650 or so?? there are hundreds of cars out there eclipses, srt's etc.... that run 3" on a TURBO car with great success. notice i didnt tell him to run it stock. a lot of aftermarket turbo exhausts are 3" a lot depends on application. but to my knowledge as VITA said the stock exhaust on our car was 2.5" and a small section was 2.25" so going to to a full 2.5" would seemingly not be that great of a benefit.
i'll take your word for it, but i've seen it, and it appears to be 2.5, the piping is pretty big. hell, you could've gained that 10 hp from eliminating where the o2 bung is pressed into the piping and using a better muffler aloneBlackRedLine said:Yes I know alot of cars have 3" exhaust but to really make gains and get the full benifit usally you should be making over 500HP+ I have been in this game way longer then most people and would not do something to my car that is not going to make power....Guess you don't know me that well, some poeple on here know me and know my old car 2001 SC2 built & nitrous fed.![]()
This is why I don't post much on boards to much anymore people believe what one person says and then they swear it is true and never believe anything else...Like the stock exhaust is 2.5" no it is not. and why did I make over 10HP gain when I did my [email protected] 2.5"![]()

chill out tough guy, nobody was discrediting you at all. think it's time to have a drink to calm the nerves?BlackRedLine said:Not even going to reply anymore you guys can believe what you want, and I hope your cars run well. People who do work to my cars build Pro Race cars and are also drivers of Pro NHRA cars...so you know what they really have no clue as to what there doing...
Yeah I rather listen to what people on the internet post and have nothing done to there cars.
DONE.
First off I am not a guy... 2nd I am fine not upset.Vita said:chill out tough guy, nobody was discrediting you at all. think it's time to have a drink to calm the nerves?
and for what it's worth, you probobly could make up 10hp switching mufflers and getting rid of where the o2 bung was pressed in, whether it takes guys who build Pro Race cars and are also drivers of Pro NHRA cars...
Nope only person after me was Berry with silver RL with dual exhaust and only from the cat back.Vita said:and i'm pretty sure there were others who did up there exhaust before august...
ohhhh, sorry miss, maybe it's time to take that midol huh? all i was saying is that i've been under the car, and from what i've seen, it appears to be 2.5. i also said i'd take your word for it that it's 2.25....BlackRedLine said:First off I am not a guy... 2nd I am fine not upset.
Just that you try to help people out with info and all they do is doubt what you say, that is fine. Just stay tuned for when my car is done 500HP+ to the wheels let just say not going to be superchared and full standalone...
my point was that there are plenty of people who don't even know forums on the internet exist, and plenty of people run out and get there exhaust done first thing on any car.BlackRedLine said:Nope only person after me was Berry with silver RL with dual exhaust and only from the cat back.
I am not the girl who said the shifter was notchy before I got the car. I have never had one problem with the shifter I like it, it could be a little shorter for my taste but stock is fine for now.Vita said:my point was that there are plenty of people who don't even know forums on the internet exist, and plenty of people run out and get there exhaust done first thing on any car.
now i'm only playing devil's advocate here, so don't take offense to my remarks, as that's not how they are intended.
and i'd really like to know what's up with your car, as i'm sure plenty others here are interested as well, so come back often and let us know how it's going?
by the way, i take it you got custom headers made, if so, what did you dyno after getting the work done?
sorry, i just had to ask. once upon a time i read a post somewhere on some saturn board where some girl with an sc2 and nitrous said the RL is slow and has a notchy shifter, tried to put two and two together.BlackRedLine said:I am not the girl who said the shifter was notchy before I got the car. I really did not want to say anything about the car untill it is done. It is a project being done with the help of SMS and will be getting a few parts that are same as the parts on the pro car and doing a custom turbo set up with AEM standalone custom harness made and will be built & tuned by Lance from Toyomoto....he use to drive the Hot Rod HP Civic in the NHRA Hot Rod Class and I also have some help and support for the car from a few friends that run in NHRA and know the ECOTEC motor in & out.
