Friend Got his redline today

Well after about 2 months of looking around any decided between se-r spec v, z24, rsx-s, and a dozen other cars, my friend finally decided on an 05 redline. He took out a 4k loan and traded in his 98 sc2 to get this car. His mom wasn't too crazy about the idea (hes 18) and she really didn't want him getting the car. Well he got approved to get an 05 without having a cosigner because he had some pretty good credit so he calls me yesterday all pumped saying how hes going to pick up his new blue 05 today (mon). I get another call last night and hes pretty pissed. His mom said told him that if he gets this car, she is taking him off of her insurance plan  , so he went back down to saturn today and him and the salesman called insurance company after insurance company trying to find a decent rate. So after about the 4th company, a company quoted him at 2800 which was only 400 more than he would have been paying under his mom's name. My guess is that they put it under a regular quad-coupe or something because every other company was over 3000 for just 6 months! Anyway, hes got full coverage on everything from the paint to the wheels. He'll be picking it up in about an hour. Pics to follow

Sounds like the mom is pretty clear on how she feels about the car. I guess your friend has his mind made up already, still it wouldn't hurt to talk to the mom before he takes it home. Otherwise, tell him congrats from a fellow Red Line owner.

holy hell thats a lot for insurance...
He is 18, what do you expect. I had to give up my car my first year in college because there ain't no way I could afford insurance on the thing and feed myself at the same time.
Its 2800, pretty steep but it could be a lot worse
yea I'm payin 280 a month but I have an accident w/ 3 points but there gone now
Man, if I was 18 and still living at home, my Mom would not only have taken me off the insurance, she would have kicked my butt outta the house for buying a car like that at that age.
Hey, wat's up guys...I am the one who picked my redline up yesterday (mon) and let me tell you I am thrilled. I still can not believe I even got it, but i did and am happier than ever. Yea I am paying round 225 a month for insurance, and 316 a month for the car payment. So with one job I am under a tight budget, but I will survive :D
welcome hope you enjoy as much as the rest of us. wait I know you will. again congrats and good choice.

Man, i'm glad i'm older! I'm only 22, with no points on my liscense, and my insurance will be ~$90/month (when i finally get my damn car that is!). I guess it pays to get older! Congrats on the new car! Now i just can't wait to get mine!!! (also blue, but an '06 w/competition package!!). Hopefully i'll have my estimated build week soon...
I pay $224 month on my RL and I'm 22 :( 1 accident and 2 tickets, 4 yrs ago
Congrats on the pickup man...i picked mine up about a month ago....i also enjoy driving it and not looking in the rearview and seeing about 6 other RL's behind me. God, how that pissed me off seing my car all over the place. I don't know about everyone, but i only saw one other RL since they even came out of production. As for insurance..i'm 21 with a 204 payment. Not to cheap, but it def could be a lot more
damn i pay $51 per month for insurance with 250/500

24 live in MN
damn u guys i was paying almost 300 for absolute full coverage at 20 and then i went to the insurance and told them that im getting married in less than two months and now its down to ~130/month and thats with life ins and full coverage. and i live in CA the crappiest place to have ins.......... also i have a clean record.
You guys need to check out GMAC insurance. Granted I am 30 but mine is $68 a month. Even a few years back with a few tickets it was not much more. Cant hurt to give them a call.
I guess it depends on where you live also because in Indiana if you have a decent record insurance is not too bad compare to what I've seen other people in other states pay. I pay $525 every six months and I have 1 car accident in my record.
