Sucks. I work at Delta airlines as an A&P mechanic and as you may have heard, Delta is shutting down all maintenance ops in DFW.

Tomorrow is my last day.

Sucks to be in an industry for 6 years and put in 4 at a major airline only to lose your job. The funny thing is, they still try to blame 9/11 for their hardship.

I'm looking to get my Real Estate license real soon though. I'll live off of my severance and vactaion pay until then I guess. As long as I don't end up running from the repo man with my RL I'll be alright.

Wish me luck in my new career.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah, it's funny how these big industries refuse to adapt. First it was steel. Now it's the airlines. There will be very few of them left when it is all over.

Either way, it sucks for you. If all else fails, run from the repo guy in the redline all the way out here to Vegas. Nevada is the fasting growing state in the country--over 6,000 people a month move into Las Vegas alone. There are tons of jobs here--mostly because of the casinos. Anyway, good luck to you.

I know a few people who have varying jobs with Delta at DFW. They were offered to move with the company. One girl went to ATL. Did they offer that to you or just an open door with directions to exit?

It's funny you say that. I bought a condo 9/02 for $95,000. I sold it 9/04 for $175,000. Do the math. Where else do you get returns like that besides California? You couldn't find a hotter market for real estate than las vegas. With that being said, lots of people are trying to cash in on it--agents and investors. If you wanted to consider it, I know lots of agents that I have done business with or have represented. Besides property, the cost of living isn't bad here.

I was offered the chance to go back to Atlanta (where I started with the company) but the total projected layoffs is gonna be 2000 and this round 1100 people were laid off or took voluntary furlough. I opted for the voluntary furlough because I really don't see any sense in moving my family back to ATL only to get laid off in the next 6 months to a year.

Nice margin on the condo.

Actually, my family and I would really like to move to FL. We've visited there several times and love it. My wife is trying to get a transfer there from her job right now. We'll see what happens.

Well, the only place my wife could transfer to in FL would be Orlando. That's where the Chrysler/Mercedes center is at. I'd hate to have to give up her Mercedes discount. I plan on getting one once the RL is paid off. ;)

Woohoo!!!

I just got an email from Raytheon and they have 128 mechanic postitions open.

The two locations available I'd be interested in are here in Dallas, Tx and some in West Palm Beach, FL.

I talked to the guy who sent the email and he was super cool. Damn, it sure would be nice to land a local gig like that instead of having to pack up and move. He said the processing can take anywhere from two weeks to a month. Good thing I have some severance pay to sit on until then.

Wish me luck. :)
