Saturn Motorsports has announced the official release date for the K&N Redline CAI will be 3/15/2005. The intake has had a higher demand than the drop in and will be manufactured first ,the drop in will follow in about 2 to 3 weeks. They said retail will be around $395.00 for the intake and that it's been tested for a 17hp increase.

17hp? $400??? That sound like a lot of power and a lot of cash.

Talk about an F'in rip off. Seriously, an intake that cost almost 4 bills. I've spent thousands with SMS and now refuse to pay that much with them. Hopefully they haven't got their greasy hands on an exclusive deal with K&N. I'll see if my contact guy can get it for me way cheaper. I'm all about supporting the all Saturn suppliers, but not at that price...

Where is this info on the SMS site? I can't seem to find anything on it.

It's a good thing there are other companies working on a CAI. This is probably a mod I'll hold off on until others release thier CAI and there is a little competition. The price will be sure to drop after AEM and Injen release theirs. I've never seen a regular CAI over $250 for any GM I've owned. As soon as someone gets one, give me dimensions (lengths, degrees bent, etc) and I'll see if i can get someone to mandrel bend 3" alumimum or Stainless piping. The only way i could see spending $400 is if this one of their typhoon or FIPK kits

Yeah, that price is fucking ridiculous.

They know that they'll be the first one to release it and that we are all hungry for parts. It's still bullshit though.

I'm just gonna get the SCdyne intake, which Adam has told me that everyone who was in on the 15 original header purchases, will be able to purchase at cost as a thanks for all our patience. He told me the price we can get one for and it's a HELLUVA deal.

Has anyone found any information on this, other than the post? There was no info that I could find on SMS, and K&N has nothing either. I just got an email from them about 4 days ago that said nothing about releasing anything in the immediate future. I also thought that someone here was letting their car be used as a test car for them? 17 hp would be worth $400, just seems way too high, there isn't a person that I've asked about that who thinks it's possible. Hell, the short ram from AEM only has a few hp peak gain, this seems like a big jump. Isn't the header supposed to guarantee 10% power increase? Shit, that's only 20hp. 17 from an intake? I dunno about that...

Guys....I have seen the dyno sheet (and I will provide if I can get a hold of it) for just killing the air box and installing the Ingen filter from a RL Vue. it dynoed at 213hp at the wheels....That being said, what was the hp at the wheels previous? What 205? There is an 8hp gain right there.....17 seems high, but not unatainable. And the 400 bucks? Does this K&N include the MAF Sensor?

There's also stock Redline's dynoing at 210+ at the wheels. I was wondering about the MAF as well.

If it includes the MAF, then 400 bucks is VERY Reasonable. Employee price on that thing is like 289.00. So if it does come with it, then you're looking at 110.00 for the intake, and 289.00 for the MAF......not too bad!!

And for the RLs dynoing up here that high? I wish!!

I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see what everything is when there are some pictures, stats, and charts for it. I'm still not seeing it anywhere but on this post. Is that guy someone from SMS or just someone?

I work for saturn of orlando parts dept. and we are a sms dealer. I spoke to josh @ sms yesterday and those are the numbers that he gave me. I doubt that K&N or SMS will have anything posted on their website until they have enough stock to fullfill their orders. He also said all the preordered intakes will be drop shipped directly from K&N, and that the setup retains many of the factory pieces. Although 400 is an awful lot I still ordered one just to see if it's really worth it.

Man, keeps alot of the stock set up? For $400? I'll pass. We were all told by the guys doing some hard-core development on the Redline, that the stock intake system is pretty good. I'm having a little trouble swallowing $400, a 17hp gain, for a system that retains alot of the stock pieces. There are only 3 stock pieces to begin with. The rubber tube from the supercharger to the airbox, the airbox, and the little tube that comes out from that. Is there a new MAF sensor as well? If there isn't, or if it's the same as the stock one, it's gonna need to be swapped out with one as soon as you modify much else on the car. This sounds like someone cornering the market as the first player, thinking people are dumb enough to buy-in.

Psi-Fi is giving us 18psi and reprogrammed ECU along with a few other things that aren't mentioned for $750-$900 i think he said was the target price. I mean thats around 40hp to the wheels if were going up 6lbs of boost. I would rather wait for that to come out then spend half of that money for a metal tube with a filter at the end. And i think 17hp at the wheels is being very optimistic. Maybe at the flywheel.
