I am in the Iowa Army National Guard. I'm a specialist E-4 and my MOS's are 92G and 92Y(cook and supply). Obviously, since I'm guard I'm not "stationed"
anywhere. By the way, I feel your pain with the Fort Gordon thing! I was there back in 2001 for my first AIT which was for 35N, telephone and switchboard repair. Anyway, I really thought that place sucked. Although, I did like the big ass PT track they have! I have been deployed once to Afghanistan for 6 months. Anyone else been deployed yet?

hahahaa...someone giving someone else warning before going into the (ch)air force? dude, done worry about it. if you boot camp was 13 weeks like mine happened to be, then i would give you a few tips. but for the af vacation training, just be sure to work on your pushups and sit ups, and you wont have any troubles. and try not to laugh at the guys yelling at you, it can get pretty funny at times. :D

Not that its not good, there is just nothing to do. Plus you will be in tech school so you will have some restrictions. Like a curfew for a month.

yea tech school sucks i am in crypto so i went to Corry Station in Pensacola, its a navy base but it is a tranning command for all the braches i had 6 AF, 1 USMC , 3 USN , 4 Army in my class and had 4 different instructors throughout the course 1 each branch so i know a good amount about the different branches and what some of the lower ranking enlisted people have to think about it. the airforce at my a-school did not really have it that bad the army had it the worst they lots of different phases the airforce was quite good they were not allowed to smoke and that really about all i can think of they did have some curfews the first couple weeks not bad tho, marines are treated so good they were basically allowed to do what ever because if they did break one of there rules they got riped apart and the navy had it ok but as i left we got more rules by the day, after tech school its not bad at all tho lots more freedom and respect given

I almost requested the Reagan when it came time for orders. How is it?

A little off topic: Your avatar is the same one I used on another board for the past two years, never thought I would see it again.

For all the airforce guys in here, i have a question. I know you dont get to choose which base you want to get stationed at but if you could, which one would it be and why?

In a way, you do, but going into the meteorilogical field, your assignments will be somewhat limited.

In basic training, you'll fill out a "dreamsheet" indicating countries or specific bases you'd like to be stationed at. Your best bet, since you'll probably be part of a detachment on ANY base you go to, is to talk to someone who is already in your field and find out where the choice assignments. Three of the bases I was stationed at didn't have any weather guys at all.

It isn't like they need weather guys in Hawaii, but that's always everyone's first choice, and I really miss Europe and Asia. Being stationed overseas is a blast as a young guy with no wife and kids or bills, trust me. My youngest son is going into the Air Force this fall, and he wants to go straight to Japan - he has a really bad drift 240 and he wants to finish it up over there.

Macdill AFB,
Why? I have just always had good experiences there, and the base is a pretty good size right on the water. Plus theres tons to do in Tampa.

Well it is a west coast ship, with a East coast mindset, and a bunch of people that have never seen a ship work before. So everyone wants to make changes to try to improve somthing that has worked for decades. To sum it up . . . The Kitty Hawk (CV-63) was comissioned in the early 60's and that thing ROCKED in comparison.
