Im a new 2005 Ion Red Line owner and would be most appreciative of anyone who has some solid advice. When I purchased this I was told by the previous owner that the ignition recall hadn't been done so not sure if it is related. Since about day 2 very intermittently the car would have no start, no crank however full power ie; dash lights, dinging, radio etc. I assumed that it was some safety switch behind the clutch pedal, not depressed enough or engaging so I removed the thick floor mat. Typically after the no start if you let it sit for a minute or 5 it would then start up no problem. It has been sitting since Friday night and it is now Sunday still no start. Please... any help here??
I have not checked the relay, I assume that is in the main fuse block? and I also have not noticed the light only when all system lights come on at initial turn of key.
#1 check your engine ground because it's free. Make sure where it connects to the body is clean and not rusty. Mine eventually broke internally, a new ground strap is under $20 at NAPA.
#2 consider replacing your ignition switch. It's only like a $30 part...assuming they're still available and haven't been scooped up for recalls. (or go get your recall done)
#3 be sure your starter is working. The easiest way is to have a brave friend tap on it while you try to crank the car. Be sure you're in neutral with the parking brake on so you don't run your friend over. You can use a voltmeter or test light as well.
Tempt fate, hit it with a hammer.
Checking grounds would be my next bit of advice, watch for that little security light too. it's the one that blinks every 30 secs or so when your alarm is active.
