Hi,

I'm trying to remove my oil pressure switch so I can install an aftermarket sender for a pressure gauge I have installed. The switch is the one located near the filter and oil cooler, and is a model BWD S4156.

Problem is that I've found trying to remove the stock switch is in a very inaccessible spot. The area is surrounded by a harness, and a coolant line I believe. I cannot access with a standard socket or wrench due to these surroundings, but it looks like I will have to use either a deep well socket, offset wrench, or crowfoot wrench. The hex size on the switch looks to be at least 3/4" or 19mm. Does this sound right? I don't want to go out and buy the wrong set of tools if I don't need it.

What has anyone else used?

iirc its a 3/4" if your
re just trying to remove the switch id suggest just using a wrench. it's not easy to get to at all, but time and patience helps.

Well do you plan on removing it and just tapping in the new sensor? If so will the car still tun cause some cars won't run with out it. Also you would have the low oil light on the dash all the time. Thats my few cents I keep in my pocket.

good point lazer you are right on. This sounds crazy but if you want to do it right, remove bumper, radiator, get a tee and run both the oem sensor and your aftermarket thingie. But for the money I would buy a PLX obd2 gauge and monitor pressure that way....and a whole lot more

i accidentally ran my car for about 6 months with the sensor unplugged. It ran fine, no cel, but it did have a code, I cleared almost daily from the interceptor.

good point lazer you are right on. This sounds crazy but if you want to do it right, remove bumper, radiator, get a tee and run both the oem sensor and your aftermarket thingie. But for the money I would buy a PLX obd2 gauge and monitor pressure that way....and a whole lot more

Interceptor does not read oil pressure... Why does that one.

Unfortunately, I don't plan on removing the bumper, radiator, or anything else, just the stock OP switch. Ideally I would tee into both the stock switch and my aftermarket sender.

I'm certain this doesn't have to be more work than it is, I just need to know what size the hex is on the OEM switch. I'm sure all that is required is a deep well socket that fits completely over the body of the OEM switch.

You are right. I put one on two days ago. I am thinking 24 mm and 21 but I could be wrong. And an impact/chrome deep socket wont fit. need a special socket for it. so use combination wrench...

if it is an obd2 read out , then plx gets it...if you are saying o/p is not read by obd2 then u r right. It may only read high and low volts from o/p sensor. I have so many numbers possbile to be :zlurking:reading out to me on my PLX I ignore most of them....

Personally i see no reason to look at oil pressure numbers. You either got it or you dont and agonizing overoil pressure changes as you drive over asphalt compared to concrete highways on an hot day is too much information.
But seeing as you questioned this, I googled it and came up with a nifty idea where a guy has put his plx readout into his rear view mirror.
