Problems with the RL

I get this same problem every time I have someone in my car. They constently beg me to let them drive it (corny topic title, but got ya to look none the less :D ). It usually comes when I tell them I am just gonna drive normally for awhile to let things cooldown(hehe..ya right). They get all relaxed and I drop it a gear and pin it and they get thrown to the back of their seat and either say "Holy Shit Batman, no need for the rocket booster in town"(my favorite), "Wow, a Satty that has power" or "Woot!" or something along those lines. Then they bug me for like 3 weeks straight to let them drive it. Anyone else have this problem.

*EDIT* sorry for double post, my comp locked up when I posted

I have the exact same problem, but only with a few of my freinds. One reson I bought the Redline, no one knows how to drive a stick anymore. So that does cut down on the problem considerably. Damn kids and their automatics. They don't know what they are missing. But when they are with me, god help them if I put in a good CD (like the Top Gun Soundtract). It's fun to see the look on someones face when a saturn hits 100mph. Yeah, a Saturn, you heard me. It's a SATURN. And then they realize I am still in 4th gear. Priceless

I have NEVER let anyone but me drive my car. Not even my own mother. (she has an L300, the caddilac of the Saturn family). I have let a few sit in the drivers seat and feather the throttle a bit, but not drive it. The last person I let drive one of my vehicles totalled it out and put 6 people in the hospital (including 3 kids under 10 years old). That is why I don't let anyone drive my car. Not going to feel guilty like that again.
I never let anyone touch my stick :D . The worst is when the females ask to drive--NEVER will that happen
MY GOD YES....why is it that females feel like they can drive anything (even if they don't know how to drive stick and won't tell you  ). The only person to drive my car other than me was my dad on the test drive (where he promptly gunned all the way from 1st to the end of 3rd..hehe fathers are funny). I have only let 1 of my friends even sit in the drivers seat and touch the stick (engine was off with keys in my hand...lol). This one damn girl (I'll admit, she is hot) is slowly breaking me down to where it is very hard to say no to her. DAMN HER!!!!
Xero,
So she wants to touch your stick, and you are thinking with yours. What's the problem? lol. Unfortunatly the sticks are not the same. Don't do it, unless she ....washes and waxes your car too.
Lol, see that is what I was thinking..sort of an agreement before hand. Though she already cooks for me (hehe...mmm...free homebaked food) and all I have to do is drive her to and from work once a week so her work friends she her in my car...lol.

DON'T DO IT. Once you give her that liberty, she won't stop. Next she'll want to take your car out every once in a while. Then, she'll want full rights. Next thing you know, it's her RL.

And yeah, why is it that women don't know how to drive a manual, but when you tell them your car is a 5-speed, all of a sudden they do? "I can drive a stick" or "I know how" Yeah right. Have fun in your auto talking on your cell phone.
Lol, I talk on my cell phone (not hands free, but merely sandwhiched between my ear and my shoulder) and eat while driving standard (not in the RL, never eat in the RL). I will not let her drive it unless I get somethin outta it....lol. And it will be a one time thing no matter what else she does for me, it will require another neogation for another drive.

If you can get something out of it...go ahead. Just make sure it's worth it, and keep her off the freeway.
Cell Phone: only when on the highway where I don't have to shift. Unless it is the 2 way (nextell). Just to much to do at once.

Food: NO

Drinking: Only if you can close it. And it better be closed if you aren't using it.

Smoking: HELL NO. And I smoke too. I will pull over and smoke outside of the car at a rest area or parking lot. Or I just don't have one. I shouldn't smoke anyway. And not smoking in the car helps with me not smoking as much, cause I love to drive my car.

Oh, it will defiantly have to be worth it ;) . And it would merely be from her house to her work (like a 5 min drive down a mainstreet with very little lights)
I only let people drive my car that have previously owned or do own a stick. Right now, I've only let my brother and dad drive it. Haven't really decided if I will let any of my friends drive it over the summer, most likely not. I've got one group of friends that all own sticks, and another group that are completely clueless. That group will only feel what it's like as a passenger. And never EVER will any woman drive my car, unless she is really into cars and races them having the experinece of a manual.
I don't want this to turn into some sort of sexist thread as that is not my intention. The girl that I am talking about has driven stick for 2yrs now so its not like she would be learning on my car. Now I can't talk for all of us, but from what I have personally seen, of all my friends who are female in gender, only about 5% know how to drive stick and of that, only 1 of them actually own a stick. There are many guys that I would not allow to drive my car becuase they don't know how to drive it or are just complete asses with their cars. But, now back on topic, I don't even let my father drive it any more....my car and my car only, if someone is to drive it, I need some colateral and something to convince me.
i started to teach my fiance how to drive stick in the RL, she did pretty well and only stalled about 30% of the time. we were in a parking lot, so it was cool, but she couldn't get above 2nd gear because we'd be moving too fast by the time she could shift to 3rd.

i plan to teach her again soon, i think anyone should know how to drive stick, what if you were stranded, a killer was after you and the only car you could get in with keys was a stick...

might be a little dramatic, but she needs to know, especially since she's my fiance
I agree, everyone should know stick, just I'd rather teach them in someone else's car...lol. I taught 5 ppl in my Cavi as I really didn't care about it. As an experience with a friend taught me that. His mom had to drive his dad to the ER, but they only car they had was his 5-spd that she didn't know how to drive. She had to run to the neighbours and borrow their car. He was okay, but knowing how to drive manual I feel is very important...as long as they don't reck my car learning :D
Sorry I didn't mean to sound sexist. I should have said that I don't know any woman that knows how to drive a stick (non of my friends do at least) except for my mom. I would let her drive it, I think. If I knew a girl that owns a stick, then I might be a little more leniant in letting her give my car a go. But if you've never driven a stick before (this goes for girls AND guys) sorry but you're not learning in my car. I'll go buy a $500 beater and let you wreck that before you can drive my car.

And yes, it is a very important skill to know how to drive a stick. They should make you drive manuals at Drivers Ed before you get your license just so you know how to do so.
Hahaha, yea..those $500 beaters are great cars...gotta get the V8 Thunderbirds going on with bleach in the gas tank...damn that makes a lot of smoke. Anyways, I was not saying you were sexist, its just that in almost all our replys (including mine) we say that we would never allow a woman to drive it. Now many females own these cars or better and I just wanted to make sure that no one was offended by this as it was never my intention. On a side note, I am making progress with my neogations to let my friend drive my car, things are beginning to look up...for the both of us:D.

I don't know why, but somehow us men are required to teach our significant others to drive stick. I tried to teach my wife on my old SRT-4 , no way, that stage 3 clutch and l/w flywheel kicked her ass, BUT i figured if she could drive that she could drive anything. Well she couldn't so I let her take out the redline, she did ok, only stalled about 30% as well. Still uncomfortable, and can not remember to push in the clutch when stopping.
I learned on a 70 VW bug, and by god, I can drive them all :D
I find that to when teaching someone to drive stick (either on their parents car or my old cavi) that once they get the whole gas/clutch thingy to get going, they seem to forget to use the clutch to stop as well. I've had one freak out and actually pull the e-brake to try to stop on the gravel road (gravel is easier to learn on I find, not as much gas is required to get movie) and we spun into the ditch. I found it fun while she freaked on me saying my car was a death trap because it stalled. And this is the same one who is neogationating with me to drive the RL...lol.
Looks like there has to be some MAJOR negotiating if she put your last car into a ditch...aren't you a little afraid of seeing your RL in a ditch? I sure would be.
In my opinion, people that want to learn or do actually drive manuals are more serious about driving. They take the car a lot more seriously. Some people that don't drive sticks or never will seem to take the car and whole driving thing for granted, and those are the people that I will never let drive my car.
