i cranked my car up today and it had some blue smoke come out the exhaust,i am pissed now,it has 800 miles on it and i changed the oil at 600,so what do u guys think i should do.i am with in the 30 day 1500 mile exchange policy?i bought the car with 200k on it so that could have been the demo car and had the shit beat out of it for the first 200 miles and now it is starting to show? [please help me out]

also what if it has too much oil in it. i out 7 quarts in it instead of 6.75 would that make it smoke?

I thought the oil capacity was 7.5 quarts (7.4 to be exact)? How much smoke came out of it, was it just right after start up? Did it keep on smoking for a bit?

The manual says 6.75. I measured with the dipstick as I put the new oil in and It read full at 6 and 3/4.

that's not good, i'd do the vehicle exchange if they let you do it for another of the same model. haven't heard about this yet, hopefully they won't give you a hassle for changing the oil yourself.

this could also be a case against beating the shit out of your car within the break in period...

lots of new cars consume oil in the breakin period takes a while for the rings to seat.

It also takes a lot longer to break in a car that uses synthetic. That is why a lot of car buff guys will break in their car with dino oil then switch to synthetic...

i changed the oil for the first time at 3000 miles.
i dont know why you guys change the oil so soon.
it has to break in properly.

i have 7000 miles on the car now
no problems.

i drained some oil out after it smoked and i have not seen it smoke anymore,it was above the max level,if thats what is was then that would be great but i dont know.should trade it in for another one before my 30days is up or not? thanks

The first 500 miles usually it's good to get an oil change simply because there can be alot of metal shavings (plus you can find a problem early by checking the oil if one emerges) from a new engine that's breaking in.

I'm glad changing it to the proper level seems to have helped but I'd have saturn take a look at it. After all, it's still under warranty.

Just to let you know, my RL has been doing the same thing and I'm just 50 miles short of 1,000. I called the dealership and I'm taking it in tonight to have it looked at. To be quite honest, if it is anything more than overfilled oil, I'm trading it for a different one. I firmly believe that if this problem is more than just the oil, our cars will continue to have more and more problems on down the road. I love the car to death, but I didn't spend all that money to have something break down on me all the time. I'll be sure to post the results tomarrow.

I took the car in and they said that it was perfectly normal to be blowing smoke, for right now. They said to take it back if the problem persists, but it just so happens with in a matter of days I will have passed my 1,500 miles. They did say that out of all the dealerships(nearly 600) this hasn't ever come up once, as far as being recorded anyway. I think that really says something. Anyway, I talked to my friend last night that bought an SRT-4 and he said that his car that was doing the same thing for upto around 2500-3000 miles. Honestly, I would have never even noticed my car was blowin' smoke if someone hadn't even told me. Which leads me to belive that maybe everyone's cars are doing this and just not noticing it. It's really hard to say. Although, if I were you I'd still take my car in to have it checked out, just in case.

well guys,i traded my blue one in for a silver one today,i did not wont to take any chances since i saw it smoke although it never did it again after i drained some oil out. so i got a sliver one with 12 miles on it and no advanced radio and it acually sounds better? any way ill take it easy on this one and see what happens.

No way.

I sat in two different RL's and listened to the stereos. One had the advanced speaker upgrade and the other did not. The Advanced system sounded WAAAAAAY better.

yea, the advanced might be a little bit louder but i am going to put aftermarket ones in it anyway.
