SRT-4 didn't wanna play today

I was out driving my RL this morning and caught up with a new black SRT-4. I passed him really fast and then waited for him to catch up. When he did, I punched it again. He didn't try to catch up.

Then we met up at a light and I figured he would want to go from a stop. Nope. I was racing by myself.

Now........I KNOW he would have beat me but I was just wanting to have some fun. I always play chase with my buddy at work with his Cobra. Yeah, he's A LOT faster than me, but it's still fun. This dude in the SRT-4 didn't wanna play. :(

I figured as cocky as those guys are, he would have wanted to try and smoke me.

Maybe he wasn't in the mood, doesn't want a ticket for drag racing, or had coffee in the car, lol. I mean there have been tons of times when I was out cruising in my SC2 where people wanted to race. Sometimes it just isn't worth it. Hopefully one will race you one day so you can see how you stack up against it...

I have a srt-4 and personally I wouldn't waste my time or gas racing a redline unless it was modded. I have stage 2 for the srt-4 and that is the only performance mod I have. I have raced 2 redlines both from a 35-40 mph punch and raced to 100-120mph and put 5-6 cars on them. I was disappointed in the races. Most srt-4 owners aren't cocky that I know. I'm glad the redline is around to help kill the imports. Plus most srt-4 owners don't like to race from a stop b/c the turbo isn't spooled up and fwd turbos are a bitch to launch. Is there much aftermarket support for the redline yet? The srt-4 didn't have much support at first besides the parts you could get from Mopar It takes time. I'm sure there will be some redlines in the future running low 13s.
I almost got a redline but i have to keep my stang!!! Ill get one one day maybe..but i am glad the srt-4 and redline are out there to help us kill them imports. You guys share common bonds with them, FWD 4 cylinder but still amercian so thats all that matters!!! :D
I know that not all the SRT-4 owners are cocky. :p Probably just a few bad apples on other forums.

I really just wanted to do it for fun. Hell, I don't really consider the RL to be a 'fast' car. I'd call it more like a 'quick' car.

Damn, it sure is fun to drive though. :D
Kinda related but not, I was westbound on I-30 on my way into Ft. Worth when a Chevy Equinox ran up on me. It was just past the I-35 junction. He was blocked in from the side to so I bumped up to 80 to get out of the way. In an attempt to get over at my earliest opportunity I signal, try to get over, and he splits out to the right so I shot back left. He gives me this jerk of a look on the way by.

The kicker, I came over a hill in just enough time to see a police car on the side of the road tag him. I slowed down got in the right lane, honked and waved at him on the way by. This guy looked pissed.

I agree, I also have raced a couple Redlines and put a real hurt on them everytime! One race from 20mph I put a good 6-7 cars lengths on him up to 100mph...with that said I am modded and run low 13's but still wish GM would have given the Redline a few more ponies to compete better!
It is still GREAT to see American cars beating up on all the imports for less money at that!!!

One can only hope that the Redline gets the same aftermarket support the SRT4 has gotten in the short period the car has been out it is amazing how many parts are available already!

Oh, I think it will. I was reading an article the other day that said GM had pulled 1000 hp out of an inline 4 Ecotec engine.

That just screams aftermarket money for GM. I think we'll see plenty of aftermarket parts and hopefully soon.
i hope you all realize for 15 bucks you can get a book that is a step by step guide to building the ecotec into a full race engine, taking some hints from that book and you can be at 1000hp too.

they already make a race intake manifold that bolts up with the 75mm ls1 throttle body, have all the flanges available for custom headers/turbo manifolds, a wastegate adapter, etc., problem is they used a turbo and we have a s/c. if you were to get the parts from a saab 9-3T you could convert to turbo, and probobly take care of some of the bill for building up an SRT fighter by selling the s/c and intake manifold/intercooler...

Couple months TOPS!!

I mean with Mopar releasing Stg1,2,3, we have well over 5 exhausr systems out, 3+ different turbo upgrade kits, TB's, every suspension part you can think of and MUCH MUCH MORE!

Check out this website, it is a company that specializes in the SRT4 :)

Shuan Carlson and Mike Crawford's SRT-4's are putting down 1000-1200HP too.

The aftermarket depends on a lot on enthusiasm, and manufacturer support. The reason the SRT-4 got a lot of aftermarket support is that the manufacturer pledged a wide line of Mopar parts for it, and that drove enthusiasts to it, which makes it a tempting market for aftermarket companies.

I hope the Redline gets support from the aftermarket, but from the sounds of it, the Redline buyers are not hardcore tuners. There seems to be a lot of reluctance, even resentful reactions, from Redline owners when asked about their track times. Most don't seem to take it to the track, or the dyno, and I don't think the majority of the market for the car are going to be the type to buy a lot of mods. That's just my observation...

The contrast there with the SRT market, I don't think you'll find many stock SRT's around. Take a look at the SRTForums, there's thousands of modded SRT's there, but I would be surprised to see thousands of modified Redlines here in a year...

Anyways, I'm sure there will be a decent amount of support eventually for the Redline, but I don't see it being a huge market. Just mho.

It did take Mopar a long ass time to release the Staged upgrades, hell Stage 3 still isn't out. However, the aftermarket support was there almost instantly.

There are about 20 exhaust systems, at least a dozen cold air intakes, tons of boost controllers, injector kits, big turbo upgrades, coilovers, CF hoods, even some piggy-back computers and harnesses for EBC's and standlone ECU's like the Greddy and AEM engine management systems. The SRT-4 aftermarket has a huge amount of available parts considering that only about 10-12k cars have even been sold.

Maybe it was just a new car, and he hadn't broken it in yet. Or maybe he was like me, has 2 points on his record and doesn't want to get the 3rd and the automatic license suspension =].

Well, you also have to remember that Chevy is releasing the Cobalt soon. Exact same engine setup. So as long as people are enthusiastic about tuning those, the Redline will also benefit.

that's what i'm banking on! and the 14.5 1/4 time is going to help boost enthusiasm amongst the j-body crowd too, considering it's a REAL time, not a MAGAZINE time. that's ok though, i'm working on my own things in the meantime...
When I get my Cobalt, it'll be as a daily driver. But as soon as I can afford to, I'll be tuning the hell out of it. :) I'd really like to see this community take off.

I'm hoping that GM will follow the foot steps of Dodge and come out with their own AM parts and still honor the warranty. After all, they DO advertise these as "tuner cars" so what the hell do they expect people to do?

I agree with this. I think the RL is a whole lotta fun to drive. Now we all know that a SRT-4 will beat a RL on the strip, but what about on a road course or auto-X? Anyone do either of these? Also, what are the handling g's for both?
