What a pain.

Anyway, hi. First post. My fiance just got a 2004 Ion Redline and I figured I'd help look for fun go-fast parts for it. It's a lot harder than finding stuff for my 2002 Camaro SS.

So...I've tried searching, but I haven't had too much luck with it here, so I'll just ask a few questions in a row.

1. Does anyone have a smaller blower pulley for the Redline yet?
2. When will the Cobalt's Getrag transmission be available?
3. What are the stock spring rates on the RL?
4. How much lift can the stock valve springs handle, and how high can you spin the motor without valve float occurring?
5. Are there any good CAI kits available for the RL yet?
6. Is the RL's PCM chip-based (like the Lightning) or do you have to program it directly (like the Camaro)?

That's it for now. :)

Others have tried to address this as well. This is a link...to some links. and this is about the ECU upgrade R&D. The fact of the matter is the RL is still too new for the aftermarket, but AEM is supposed to be working on a CAI also.
I saw the first one and had hoped for more than just some appearance mods. I didn't notice the 2nd thread since I'm not from Michigan, so thanks for that one. :)

The car is not too new for the aftermarket...to be honest it simply has NOT taken off like it should have!

Saturn/GM need to step up and get in the aftermarket game like Mopar if they want other companies to follow, if not I can see the car being put aside for parts simular to how the Cavaliers were treated in the past...biggest 4 cylinder car in the game at the time (1995-2002) yet has the least amount of aftermarket support.

I hear ya there, bro.

Hopefully GM will want to get into the game with the release of the Cobalt and that will greatly benefit the RL.

Saturns are kind of like GM's redheaded stepchild so no one is jumping on the RL bandwagon and, quite frankly, GM hasn't done any sort of PR or advertising for it like they have the Cobalt.

I don't really care though. I like having a "different kind of car" (pun intended) than everyone else. As long as the Cobalt gets some AM support, this RL owner will be more than happy to go buy some "Cobalt" AM parts.

I don't think GM will give any support to RL owners, that is just the way they are. However, I'm sure they are going to be pushing the Cobalt, as you can see from their commercials already. So regardless we will still have to make a lot of stuff for ourselves, yet can still benefit on some parts from the Cobalt...

just think what a collector's item we have already?? ;) ;)
does anyone know the production numbers for the 04 1/2 RL
????

Not sure of the production numbers but I do recall hearing that it hadn't done as well as Saturn and GM had hoped.

As long as they pump out the Cobalt AM engine upgrades I'll be a happy man. :D

Does anyone think that RK Sport will include the R/L. Maybe when the Cobalt is out, and I agree with MikeCandler, G.M. should kick it up a knotch like Mopar, but unlike mopar they should honor their aftermarket parts as far as the waranty is concerned.

i don't completely agree with the warranty statement, although it would be nice, anyone putting on aftermarket performance parts is likely to drive harder, causing more problems, i believe the parts themselves should be warranted, but that's about it. it would be nice enough for them to offer a GM aftermarket in the first place, DCX had it right by offering upgrades pretty much right away.

we'll see if this 270hp package will be available for the RLs and Cobalts, then they would be making some progress

My dealership signed a document stating that all Mopar performance parts installed on my car would in no way affect the powertrain waranty unless they could prove the Mopar part caused the failure...its all in how you treat people IMHO.

I have a very good relationship with my dealer and I spoke with the owner and service manager before I signed the papers. I told them what the plans for the car where and wanted to know how my waranty would be affected, I have had my car in for service without and issues thus far in regards to waranty work!

Oh nothing big, #4 spark plug replaced and steering column was replaced...both were TSB's on the car but with that said some dealers in the US are attempting to void waranties if they see anything thats not stock...and considering I am noticably modded I have had not issues. The service guys were asking what was done to the car etc when I have been into the dealer getting work done or simply oil changes. I have actually went as far and taken the OWNER for a ride in the car :).

This is why I said its all in how you talk to the service reps and if they think you are attempting to "screw" them they will do the same to you...I have a mutual understanding with them that if something I have installed caused the failure I will fix it at my expence :).

that's good to know it's been nothing major! i am not suprised to hear that some dealers are trying to screw people out of their warranty on srt's, even if it's a TSB.

It is very sad...so far it is not nearly as bad as some of the Evo/WRX owners have been reporting but as I like to think its all in the relationship and quite frankly some dealerships are simply morons and are just out for a quick buck :(.
