Tapping Sound

Are you sure it is not the exhaust popping?

I'm not really sure of anything...I just know I dont hear it all the time, but it sounds almost exactly like someone is tapping on my trunk lid.

I've heard it too, but never until it got a little warmer out here, and usually when I come to a pretty hard stop.

Yes a few of us hear it but i have no idea what is is. It sounds like someone in the trunk trying to get out. Happens on all ions.

Well i'm not alone then, and yes its usually after a hard stop. I guess if its not a problem then I won't worry about it.

Make sure you mention it when you take it in for service next, at the very least try to make sure they record it.

DON"T OPEN YOUR TRUNK!!

There are gremlins in it. If you open the trunk they will get out. They are trying to trick you. Don't fall for it. Saturn works very hard to make sure that they only stay in the trunk. We all had to take our RL's in when one got out and messed up all of our Cam shaft sensors and the one that messed up our computers. It only takes one to effect us all. So don't open your trunk if you here that noise.

I'll mention it, however, i dont get my saturn serviced at the dealership. They don't do my oil changes and stuff for free.

This "tapping" noise, is it a different sound from the "ticking" sound coming from under the car after you park it and it starts to cool?

Yea, the ticking noise is the exhaust cooling, this literally sounds like someone tapping 3 times on the inside of your trunk. The first time I heard it I actually looked at the passenger side window, thinking someone WAS tapping on it.

Yes its not the same noise. It sounds more like a small knock than the ticking.

haha i did the same thing twice.....has anyone spoken to a dealership about this and if it is in fact problematic?

Mine "ticks" more than 3 times.

When I first get out of the car, the "ticking" is very rapid and quickly slows down and dissipates within 10 to 20 seconds.

Otherwise, never heard a "tapping" noise.

I've heard it too.. i havnt talked to my dealer either, but i have to go in there to get a scratch buffed out, so maybe i'll bring it up then and post it here if anyone else hasnt asked them before me..

Yea, that's totally different than what we're talking about, I know exactly what you're describing. Mine does it all the time, the harder I drive right before parking it, the louder and faster it does it.

Yeah the ticking is just the car cooling down...the knocking we are talking about has no explanation as of yet.

It must be something with the brakes, or suspension bushing or something, it feels/sounds like tension being released. Perhaps something with our strange axle/swaybar design.

It's happened to me only once, when I stopped at a red light (and I generally do try to stop at them contrary to what my friends may think ). ...and yes it really did sound like someone outside and behind me had given 3 light knocks to the vehicle.

Do i smell another recall? I'm sure its nothing too major if everyone is experiencing it.
