The only thing that really really disappoints me about this system is the graphics. Yes yes, I know it is a large improvement from what there is now, but the leaked knowledge of the PS3 graphics seem to be able to crush the 360. I honestly don't remember the facts on what was leaked but from what I remember it was something of equal performance of the Raedon X800 in a console. It supposedly has something like 32MB of onboard DRAM (compared to the 360's mesely 10). There is no doubt in my mind that the 360 will be a great system, but I was honestly expecting more from Microsoft in the graphics field and on how they copied the PS2 on being able to be vertical or horizontal.

I agree about the disappointing graphics comment. From the videos I've seen, they definitely look good, but nothing substantial over the PS2 and XBOX, and CERTAINLY nothing substantial over the PS2 and XBOX like they were over the PS1, N64, etc.

When the PS2 and XBOX (and even Dreamcast) came out, it was like "HOLY SHIT!"-graphics compared to the PS1 and N64, but the 360 graphics look only slightly more detailed than what we're playing nowadays, ya know? I was expecting near-real-life graphics, but they don't seem like a big leap ahead like we saw 5 years ago with the 128-bit systems.

The backwards compatibility is exactly the reason that the graphics on the PS2 have suffered. Go play two of the same games on the PS2 and Xbox, ports of PS2 games look better on the Xbox, since the PS2 has been handicapped for backward compatibilty... Can't live in the past!

Sp00ner has a very great point here! Also from the way I seen it, the graphics on the XBOX 360 are ownage. PS3? Please specs I read for that where NOTHING compared to the XBOX. But then again guys its nothing to fight over seeing as its all rumored specs. We'll just have to wait to see

Rumors are just that! From what I've read of the hardware specs, the two systems will be very similar. The systems now, are not that different, but to mantain backward compatibility, means sacrificing cutting edge graphics rendering technology in some cases.

That is generally true, but Windows XP has that compatiblity thingy (granted it barely if ever works...but it is there) and it doesn't hurt any graphics. So it is possible to have great graphics with the ability to play older games, they would just need some sort of check that modifies the system for the game (hmmm...wonder about burned games  ). Both systems have their ups, both have their downs. XBOX you gotta pay of online where with Sony you don't. The 2 main reasons why I didn't buy the xbox was the online and the fact that sony still has many of the game develpors behind them on a contract for them only (gotta love series that started with the ps). I agree that the ps2 has lesser graphics but I can live with the fact that my game has the graphics of a computer that is equal to having a computer 5 months older than the xbox. But again, we will just have to wait and see what both companies bring out in the final development.

What sold me the Xbox is the constant 'burning out' of the damn PSx. Everyone I know is on PS2 #2, at least. I would have been on #3, my roommate sold his first one to a good friend, and it burned out 3 weeks later, etc. That's not to say that the Xbox won't, but I just couldn't stand buying a 3rd one. I almost bought another one just for GT4, but the Forza game his actually made a great replacement for it. Yes, the game lines on the PS were great, there sure are more out there. I'm the kinda person that only plays one or two games for like a year though. The EA Baseball and Football games, and a good first person shooter, Halo2 for now, and a driving game. So as long as a system provides for that I'm totally satisfied.

Ya sony's do tend to burn out if over used (I think they actually make the console for 'causal' gamers...lol...why?) but I have owned the orginal ps (not the psone or the 2nd/3rd gen ps, the 1st gen within like 10 days of it coming out) and neither one has burned out on me. Both have mod chips in them and both have been several abused both phsyically (falling from shelves, controlers thrown at them) and nomarlly(hours upon hours upon hours upon hours of constant game play). I know I am lucky in this regard but sony does have a few consoles that are actually decent and won't burn out...lol..thats just sad. Oh and 1 more reason why I didn't initally buy the xbox...I don't want to support Gates more than I have to. Its bad enough he has a monoply on OS's (yea yea, theres unix and linux and mac...but what games can you honestly play on those!) and none of them are great. Hell there are security patches every god damn 3 months basically. If his company would make a decent OS with much much less problems I'd be happy to look further into the xbox. Just my opinion.

Hmm. I'm on my original PS2, and have had it for...uh...years. Sorry, don't even remember when I got it anymore. :) A couple months after the initial rush, I think.

Then again, I don't play it constantly...switch between that and my PC, so that could help.

Yeah pretty much any one of these guys can burn out, and I can see not wanting to buy a 3rd one. Hopefully the next generation will be a little more robust.

Mostly though, I haven't bought an Xbox because most of the games don't thrill me. I'd be buying it for just one or two games, and it's just not worth it. PS2 has a much wider selection of games that I enjoy.

Heh. I only play a few games every year, but mostly just Madden NFL, a driving game, and a couple of strategy-type or RP games. Haven't enjoyed any FPS games since Doom 2. I'm sure Halo 2 is an excellent game, and the Xbox has good FPS games, but since they don't do anything for me...

:)
