I originally fired up this thread again and wanted to chime in and thank you guys for posting your experience when dealing with the Throttle body. I just needed to make sure it would be okay to remove and clean. And as long as it was disconnected from the wiring and all. Thanks again for the posts...

I have a newbie question, the CRC throttle body cleaner says do not use on supercharged, turbocharged, or diesel motors. What throttle body cleaner do I use then?

Take the throttle body off and clean it that way, or spray it on a rag and wipe it clean. DO NOT spray it into the s/c!

If I spray it on the rag can I clean the inside of the supercharger as long as I don't spray in there?

Definitely remove the TB from the SC inlet. Clean the SC inlet by spraying a lint free rag and wiping inside the inlet. It isn't necessary to clean the inlet as that's not what causes the idle surging issue. The surging is due to the butterfly valve not being able to position itself properly (gunk buildup inside throttle body).

Cleaning the Trottle body of 2005 and Up

Does this article refer to just the supercharger models or all models? And does it refer to the 2005 and up where the throttle position sensor is built in? I have the 2005 Ion 3 2.2, I think its the redline edition but does not have a supercharger engine. Keeps giving a P0121 code and weak idle. Stalls often at stops and often stops. Thought maybe a cleaning would help.
Thanks

He is referring to the supercharged model here. You do not have a Redline, you have a base model. But either way, it is the same concept.
Try cleaning the throttle body with either throttle body cleaner or rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work, you will need to either replace your gas pedal or throttle body. Cleaning is the cheapest one to try.

when you say the winter rich months - what's the reason for the extra gas

is this due to the low humidity and/or temperature outside?

I don't have time to read through the years of this thread....

Does any one have a recommendation for a brand of Throttle body cleaner

good with our cars?

Yes when it's cold yer car runs rich longer till its warm plus you let it idle warming up more often so the slower air contaminate sticks easier.

Going to HAve the TB cleaned and an air filter

mostly because of the p1182 code in my history

while having my drilled slotted rotors finally installed

hopefully this week

I would love to learn and work on myself

but don't have the time right now

Any opinions about K&N

Air intake - should I get one?

I asked about zzp cai and the mechanic says he used to work for k&N

or somethin

Doin TB clean and air cleaner is a snap with a few tools. I can do my brakes in 20min. but I take mine apart yearly so they come apart easy. If they haven't been done in awhile they might be alittle tight. To do your rotors you literally take your wheel off then remove 4 bolts, 2 fer caliper and 2 fer cradle then pull the rotor of.

K&N does nothing for performance. It is actually smaller diameter than the stock. It DOES however give you TEMENDOUS sc whine. I have one and love it. The ZZP is better for performance because it is actually a full 3in pipe like the stock pipe but I don't think it is as loud.

Should you get one? I love my whine so Id say yes but its a lot to spend for sound. I found mine cheap, got lucky off ebay.

Here is the whine you get from a K&N

That was nice race - you guys have to pay do that?

Do you win anything?

In regard to the K&N - thanks - I actually like my sound so

I may not wan to mess with it .... not sure what's going on with it

that it sounds different than other redlines but it's has a deepness to it

the whine is more noticeable though.

I was thinking that the cold air would help my p1182 code because

it seems to be on and off by any changes in humidity, rain, and heat.

I think I read that the stock is a CAI anyways ..

I have to get my Drilled rotors installed but they keep sending

me bad rotors - I am a little worried because they have that reputation for

cracking

I've got 10 rotors sitting in my garage - 3 are perfect

Power Stop does not check them before they send them -

they must be hoping the customers are blind.

Pits, ,marks, and most recently I received one with it looks like there was a

defect and the cut out a little to correct it but I think it should be perfect all

around the edges - now I have to send more pics to Power Stop - this has

been the worst experiences ever :( :mofo:

$20 fer the night
Only win stuff if ya get into the time trial
Yer sound is prolly commin from exhaust not intake.
Stock intake is a CAI more or less
Even if you get perfect rotors they are all gonna look like crap in time anyway.

The K&N intake is better than the 3" zzp one. My wife's redline had the K&N and mine the ZZP and hers sounded better and was a bit quicker.

I like the sound with the windows open so i can get a better feel for the car

- combined, the K&N may make me lose my hearing

,,,,Power Stop must believe in the philosophy lets get it over with

right away - ---

This is why I am going the distance :fight:
