Trunk scratching my rear bumper!

2200 Views 18 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  zfactor
My trunk is hitting my rear bumper. It's scratching the living hell out of my trunk lid and rear bumper. I already took it the dealer and they told me to bring it back tommorow for service they are gonna touch up the scratches and realign the trunk. I'll be taking pictures tommorow before I go to show you guys how badly it's scratched my RL up. You guys should check your trunk lid's and rear bumpers to see if they have been rubbing and scratching.

Mine too! It's going back today.
My wife has a ION 3 QC with the Xeon body kit and that bat wing looking spoiler, she has scratches on the door sills of all 4 doors, where the spoiler overhangs on the rear quarter pannel, the bottom of the lid and the top of the rear bumper, We take it in about once a month for a touch up, they keep trying to adjust it, but to no avail, the doors were re-adjusted and it saved about half of the door sill, but the trunk is "just built that way" they should definately do it for free, no questions asked.
My RL doesn't have it just yet. Hopefuly it stays that way.
My trunk did the same thing. On a scheduled service, the dealer repainted the whole bumper and "fixed" the gap so they wouldn't scratch anymore.

The nice thing is, I had a couple of bumper scratches that are now all gone - but the "fix" did not work. I have new scratches where the trunk meets the bumper.
Yep, I got em too.

Not real bad, but they're there.
Well I took it to the dealer today and they would not give me a rental so I said " **** ** i'm bringing it to another dealer " I was livid!
Anyone have the Saturn Corp number? I saw it on the forum once but I cant find it. I'm really unhappy with the way Saturn of Colma has been treating me and my car situation.
Hope this is the right number, got it off of the website. Says Customer Service..... 1-800-553-6000 :D Hope my Saturn doesn't give me any trouble like that when i turn in my vehicle for the scratches the trunk is causing.
never ending scratches

Yes, my dealership realigned the trunk and sent it to a body shop to get the scratches out and repaint it. Only prob is, it's happening all over again. I'm just gonna leave it be this time though.
I have the same problem, mine is starting to get very noticable!

Z, post a sticky thread and tell us how to stop this from happening.
i will take pics and post it up tonight. you will have to get 2 of the license plate bumpers from your delaer to do the fix... and not its not the same as the saturn tsb we need these 2 to modify the existing ones on the car now... itll make more sense when i post it up later...
Firstly; this thread is a year old and Saturn now has a TSB for this issue.

They attach 3 rubber stoppers to your trunk and then 3 round clear plastic stickies where they meet the bumper.

I had mine done months ago. It's not a pretty fix but it works.

HMMMM and here I thought I was the only one with this problem. LOL :D:D:D
im super pissed about the 04 saggy bumper, what can we do?

keith-
sorry i couldnt do pics yet....

here is a simple explanation for you....
open your trunk pull out the 2 long rubber stoppers in either end of the trunk lid. you will see a small hole in the bottom of each. this will need to be drilled open slightly. take the 2 rubber license plate bumpers you needed to get from the dealership (the same ones they use on the tsb) but DO NOT DRILL THE HOLES IN THE TRUNK LID like they say to .... get some rubber cement and put some on the nub on the license plate bumpers and place these inside the now larger hole in the reg long ones. let them dry. put them back in and viola you are done. i 100% gaurantee this will work perfectly... no stupid clear stickers on the bumper and no stupid rubber things sticking out of the bottom of the trunk lid etc.... these this way can not be seen and it does work. you will notice the trunk lid is slightly tight to close now. this is a good thing, and you will now after driving a bit see where the rubber stoppers are now hitting the bumper like they should have done from the factory. you can push down on the trunk lid this way and you will notice it does not come close to the bumper any longer.....

this is super easy to do. just get 2 of the bumper from the license plate and you have the other 2 already on the car.... you'll be glad you did it this way instead of the old tsb way. that way sucks. they did that to mine and i hated it so i figured out a new way to do it. saturn just didnt make the bumpers long enough to prevent this from hapening in the first place.
