I just got off the phone with the dealer. I should get my RL back tomorrow as they were putting it back together when I talked to them.

I was told that they had to replace half of the casing due to faulty forging.

You guys might also wanna keep a close eye on your trannies.

Anyhow, I'm very excited to be getting back my baby and getting rid of the Cavy rental.

im tired of the sound it makes while in gear and especially on acceleration.

its supposed to be quiet.....not "pretty much quiet" haha.

Are you talking about the transmission making noise?

I haven't noticed that mine is but then again, I have the upgraded, 6 speaker audio system in mine and it's usually on pretty loud.

When I get it back, I'll turn it off and listen.

Damn, I wish the LSD were available to us. Now would have been a great time to have one installed.

I can hear the same noise with the windows down driving next to a wall or building. The dealer said it was normal...NO WAY it's normal.

It goes back to the dealer Thursday to be looked at. I told the dealer to have a loaner ready and the will maintain possession of the car until it is fixed. If not..they can have it back!

It's a shame cause I really love the car but the tranny noise is killing me!

the only noise i hear is the supercharger spooling up
very nice music.

JPK did u ask them about the LSD, it might be available. doesnt hurt to try, heck maybe since the tranny is out, they'll cut u a price on labor, since the tranny is ripped apart.

I just assumed it wasn't available yet. Besides, if I spent that much money on the car this close to Xmas the wife would probably divorce me.


BTW- I just called them (2:30pm CST) and the guy I usually talk to was at lunch and the other numb nutz didn't know shit about it. (You'd think he would know something about a car that's been there so long or at least have the courtesy to walk back into the shop and ask for me.) I'm guessing they ran into problems since he didn't call me this morning. This will be day #6 without my car if I don't get it back. I'm getting very impatient and very pissed off waiting on their call. If I have to drive that fucking cavalier for one more day....................

I finally got a call back from the dealer (after I had to call them again, mind you) and they got my car up and running today only to discover THERE WAS NO 4TH GEAR THERE

I was told that they were sent the wrong crush gasket or something. Don't know squat about trannies so...........

And now the tech has to take all apart again and they're having the part overnighted to them. I'm lookin' at Friday as the soonest I'll get my car back.

I told the Service Dept. manager that this piece of shit rental car I'm driving is costing me $5 a day and that is starting to add up quickly. He said that they would cover that (as they should anyhow).

I'm so fucking pissed. I love that car so much. It's got all the options I want and nothing that I don't but if I have so much as a single little problem with it again, I'm gonna tell them to get me a new one. This is getting ridiculous.

i would love to upgrade to an 05 once the competition package comes out, but id get so little for it, id probably end up spending close to 10k for it, even with maybe 4,000 miles on my car.

oh well, i knew getting this car that its the first year made, its certainly gonna have problems.

im happy tho and no problems yet! cept that sound...

i'm thinking, new transmission, w/ limited slip differential. and that should be free if not givin a huge discount since youve had so much issues with it allready. if they say no, calll up gm corporate, and tell them your situation, and say that u would like to get the LSD at a discounted price w/ free installation. cuz thats a bunch of bs, did they not test drive the freaken car after install. put it in everysingle gear since it is a tranny.

Yeah, they test drove it. It wouldn't shift into 4th.

I was just thinking the same thing about the LSD. I'm gonna tell them tomorrow either a new tranny (preferrably with LSD) or a new car. I don't want to drive a brand new car with an essentially rebuilt transmission.

yeah i feel ya, even if they give you a new car, try to see if they discount that lsd. so is it true that the cobalt SS S/C has a different trans? i'm reading mixed things.

I didn't even ask about the LSD. Those fuckers wouldn't even put a new tranny in it for me much less give me an LSD for free or at a discount. (see other thread)
