White face/ Blue backlit gauges

I found this on ebay, although it is for the regular ion
Gauges
I wonder what they did. Also note the little ION above the coolant and gas section. And the different text . . . So it can be done.

I ordered a set like that from Ebay, and it came for the wrong car they sent me one for the SL1/SC1 and then refused to send me the correct piece. Anyway, it was just printed on white paper, and you just took off the needles, put the gauges on, replaced the bezel over the gauges, and there ya go.

Just paper, that is pretty shitty, you think it would be some type of nifty plastic. Oh well, just saved me $50.
something like that might be cool to have once we start getting a different Redline so we dont get confused when to shift. haha or just to make the new redline look more stock, even tho i like the idea of scareing friends by reving it over the redline but really not have it be over
This is a great idea. I dont know what gauges you have bought before but I've seen some quality gauges. I really like the way that actually looks but 50? WTF!! LoL I've seen like 30 bucks max on sets before. Usually they are a layered plastic and the like. I'm looking to do the same for the HVAC controls. I am actually working with someone whos made a really cool looking set for the 2000 SLs and I'm gonna try and get the backing tinted blue. Basically its a blue plastic piece with white printed on it so that it blocks the light from coming threw. If anyone is really interested in theseI'm working on a set for the HVAC controls :)
Drxxfr this mite be useful for u! HVAC
IMHO that price is way too high for what it is. I paid $50 CDN($35 USD) for a real carbon fibre overlay for my Grand Prix.
Hey Boka thanks for looking out, I happen to see that already :). We are using that image as a guide. I'm also takin out my controls tomorrow to see what I have to work with :)
A/C control lights

Well I didn't have my RL to take apart so I did the next best thing. I took apart the Dealer Loaner car. Since mine is in the shop getting a ecu upgrade. I thought it was only fair that I take apart there ion. :D Anyways I will have the a/c gauges turn to blue this week not a problem in getting it apart. I will take picture of the whole process and upload them with instruction to my web site. The 4? ( I think) Bulbs have a blue rubber cover on them already but you really don't see it. The 3 buttons on the bottom use LEDs so this part is easy. You will have to do some soldiering on this one no way around this unless you change the buttons.

Also Going to change the Cruise Control Led. Another project to do.

AHHHH LOL The one spot I was thinking about that I was keeping secret!!! Anyway did the radio have to come out to get to the gauges?? Also are you doing an overlay or just changing out the LEDs? I've been photochopping up an HVAC overlay along with another guy like I've mentioned before. I am waiting for him to get back to me with what he has so far. Oh yea and I just got my ECU flashed and HOLY HELL does it drive much nicer!!!
The owner of blackcatcustom.com is literally 3 minutes away from my house. He has made gauges for my buddy's Talon (non-turbo). He is the real deal and has quality stuff. The paper gauges someone here referred to were ones posted a while back on saturnperformance.com

They were scanned in and modified using photoshop. A cheesy, yet effective free mod. These ones by blackcatcustom.com are the real deal. The quality is there for sure.
Really?? Well what about him making some custom ones for the redline and stuff? I actually like the fon he used there.
Yea I like those too actually, that would be nice if he could make an application for everyone here.

ECU flash failed. Replacing ECU now. But if that does not work Lemon Law! And a new RL with 14000 less miles on it. Anyways, no you don't have to take the radio out. I just left it in there and took it apart. Its a easy job.
What you mean you left it in there to take apart? I was trying to take the whole unit out to look at it. I'm gonna try and get ahold of the guy that I've been working with on this and see what he's got so far.
Saturnd00d think you can talk to him about a custom setup for the redline? :) I'm really interested in a set. Also would be neat if on the speedo it read REDLINE in the blade runner font that we were talkin about for the spark band covers with a redline behind it. :) Heh just my ideas. Also maybe get rid of the word ION above the gas gauge
Actually I never met the guy, and I do work two jobs so life is a bit hectic. Just give him a call, he can make the gauges to your preference. You can have whatever logo on it, with whatever color backlighting and so on. I remember the first time I called him, it was for gauges for my SC1 but because it was a one-off job it was going to be more expensive. Since he has already done the R&D for these ION gauges, I am sure he won't charge as much. Your best bet for even further savings would be a group buy of at least 5 guys or more. That time he recommended that option to me as well, to cut the cost of the gauges. Problem was, I couldn't get 5 98-99 SC1 owners together for custo gauges, but redlines? I don't see a problem with that. Give him a call, he's a nice guy to talk to. He'll work with you on this.

Yea I left it in there and took it apart. I took the knobs off and uncliped the face plate. Its very easy to take the black part off.
Hmm, I think I'm goin to have to try but let me know what you come up with. The guy I am working with is going to work on it on monday. As for the whiteface gauges I'm gonna put an email together I guess asking him about them. I'll keep you guys posted!
I actually just finished calling the guy from blackcatcustoms, his name is Alex and he will be sending me some pictures through email about his upcoming designs for the ION as well, which he said he will be posting up on Ebay very soon. He came up with a couple new designs, but he did mention that he will work out something for you guys whether or not it's a one-off custom job or a group buy. He mentioned if you guys are looking to do a group purchase, each gauge face order doesn't have to be the same as the others, they can all be totally different, but he will still work with you guys. Also, I asked him about HVAC panels, and he said that he can do those as well.

I am mistaken though, he no longer lives 3 mins. away from me, but in fact, now lives out of Niagara Falls, Canada (which is 40 mins away from me).
