Low fuel pressure (BRFPS) - Need some ideas

Old timer here. Nice to see the forum still here, but I'm sure most members/redlines are long gone. Mine is still alive (somewhat) and well. But I'm having a fueling issue at the moment that has crippled the redline and I'm running out of ideas on what else to diagnose. Just seeing if anyone has had similar issues or has any ideas. To start, I do have ZZP's BRFPS. I think this is probably one of the key factors to my problem and making this a bit more confusing for me to diagnose.

The problem: Low fuel pressure. Right now, it sits at roughly 20psi at idle (about half of what it should be). Normally it would sit at around 42psi at idle.

I'll try to make a long story short as best I can, but still try to give you the full details. My Redline is not driven around very often. I drive it only during the warmer weather and I put maybe about 200-300 miles on it a year now. This is the first year I've had this (or any) problem. I've haven't done any mods to it for about 5 years. A couple weeks ago, took it out for the first time after it was sitting over the winter. I was able to drive it around for a few miles, get some gas, and come back home with no problems. The next day, I started to pull out of my driveway, it started misfiring and popping like crazy if I gave it any gas. I had to lightly accelerate to get any speed. I came to a stop light and basically lost all power when I tried to move. I was barely able to inch my way across the road before it shut off completely. I could start it up again, but it just died a few seconds later. Ended up getting it towed back home. I don't think this was limp mode either, because limp mode from what I understand is supposed to still let you drive it at low RPMs.

Later that night, it started up and idled just fine. I've been doing this for the last couple of days and letting it sit for about 20 minutes and getting up to temp. No misfires, temps look fine, revving it is normal, but the fuel pressure is just sitting at about 20 psi on the BRFPS gauge. The only CEL that shows up is P0036 (which I've had for the last few years). However, the one thing I noticed is that when priming the fuel pump before starting the engine, I no longer hear the vacuum discharge from the open fitting on the evap canister. I thought the pump wasn't working correctly and swapped it out with a new one and still have the same issue. No vacuum sound and still sitting at 20psi. On a side note, I have a brand new evap, vent, and boost solenoids. I've checked all the vacuum hoses and everything is still hooked up properly. HPTuners is showing the vent solenoid as constantly closed and the boost solenoid control at a constant 100%.

Right now, the next step I think I'm going to take is check out the PCV since one of the vacuum lines to the BRFPS is hooked up to that. Aside from that, I'd just be throwing some haphazard repairs at it and hope it will fix the issue.

Nice to see an old timer come back!
Its been pretty dead around here since Facebook took over. Its sad.
Anyway. I'm not familiar with the BRFPS.
Just shooting in the dark though, think maybe the regulator on the rail is clogged? Howd the injectors seem when you logged it? Maybe some debris build up or not always opening?

I actually haven't even thought about checking with the facebook group to be honest. My account hasn't been active in well over 10 years. I was thinking about checking the fuel rail and injectors when I take off the manifold to get to the PCV since everything will be taken apart already. They shouldn't be clogged since most of these parts I bought brand new when I did a completely new build. All together, they have less than 2000 miles on them. I would imagine the filter would be the one to clog up first before the rail or injectors. But I'm still stuck on believing this is somehow related to a vacuum issue. The logs look good, but I lost a bunch of parameters with the new HPT update, so there is a handful of info I'm missing. My knowledge with tuning is minimal, so I can't really make many adjustments either.

I didn't even think about the filter. Have you ever changed it?
I can't stand the Facebook groups. Haha

The filter was changed last summer, but I ordered a new one just to play it safe. Another thought clicked in my head yesterday too. What are the signs of a bad ignition switch? I had a service vehicle light come on with the once very briefly when I jump started it for the first time this year, but it went away. I'm wondering if there is something telling the PCM not to vent the evap.

Yes also old man since 2004 lol miss the car .change the fuel filter. Then check the regulator. Then injectors. But then you just throwing money at it I wish I could give you more help. Good luck.

Sorry for a late reply, but something interesting happened which I believe sort of narrowed down the issue for me. Sunday evening, I removed the stereo to check out some wiring. Once I reinstalled everything, I tried to start it up again. This time the fuel pump wouldn't even prime. It would just keep on cranking. So I decided to unhook the battery and left it overnight. After work on Monday evening, I hooked the battery back up and went to start it. Fuel pump primed, the vacuum sound came back, and my PSI was sitting at 42psi where it should be! On a side note, that vacuum sound is actually coming from the BRFPS fuel regulator, not the open fitting on the evap canister. I'll try to post a video of what it sounds like sometime.

Now for the interesting part. I go to start it up again on Tuesday, and it's back to not even priming the fuel pump. I've tried to start it every day this week so far after that, and nothing. So I think my issue is leaning more towards electrical than mechanical. I guess I'll start testing some relays and swap out the ignition switch when it comes in. If those don't fix it, then I think my PCM might have taken a shit on me. I would hate to have to tow it to Chevy and pay them $300 for a diagnostic since I don't have access to a Tech2 scanner.

Just another follow up here. I got the new ignition switch installed and was able to program it without any issues. No error on the odometer or security light. The fob also locks and unlocks properly, but still no power going to the fuel pump. I tested the fuel relay and that works fine as well. After doing some more digging around, I decided to order one of those Tech2 clone diagnostic tools. At this point, I think it's safe to assume that there are some PCM/BCM codes that I need to pull. I don't want to keep having to play guessing games and throwing money at parts that don't need to be fixed. At the rate I'm going, its going to be a brand new car by the end of the year.
